Upaisa, a joint venture of Ufone and Ubank, wins the award for ‘Best
Bank-Led Mobile Money Programme’ at the most prestigious Mobile Money
Global Awards 2013 in Dubai, UAE.
Mobile Money Global Awards 2013 is a renowned and glamorous platform for companies to showcase their achievements to industry’s top 500 executives from the mobile money sector.
The ceremony took place between 5th to 7th
November as part of the Mobile Money & Digital Payments Global
conference. The ceremony was held to recognize organizations that
develop, establish and deploy mobile money programmes.The winning
procedure of the awards was purely voting based.
“This award is a testimony of our robust operating model,especially the innovation which we brought in the mobile money programme. The aim was to provide convenience, simplicity and security to our customers combined with functionality and real time transactions for instant response which Upaisa has achieved successfully. We will continue to bring improvements in the mobile money sector in Pakistan by introducing new and innovative services for our users.” said Salman Wassay, Chief Commercial Officer, Ufone.
Etisalat – the Parent company of Ufone and Ubank – and Master Card also won the award for “Best Mobile Money Deployment in the Middle East” for the launch of Flous in Egypt.
Upaisa, which was launched in Pakistan recently with the largest agent network of more than 10,000 agents across the country, has reached a record high of Rs6.4 billion worth of transactions. The facility is becoming increasingly popular in Pakistan as it allows the customer to conduct transactions wherever and whenever it’s required. It is a quick and convenient method of transferring money for the unbanked population.
