While the rest of the world was engaged in cyber security and privacy, an Indian patriotic hacker targeted <b><span style="color: red;">43 major Pakistani Government official websites</span></b>, including ‘<b><span style="color: blue;">President of Pakistan</span></b>’, ‘<b><span style="color: blue;">Government of Pakistan</span></b>’, '<b><span style="color: blue;">Ministry of Defence</span></b>’, and <b><span style="color: blue;">Whole Ministry of Pakistan</span></b>.<br />

<b><span style="color: red;">Indian hacker <a href="http://rexhacker.blogspot.com/2014/08/godzilla-hacker-takes-down-several.html" target="_blank">Godzilla</a> </span></b>claimed responsibility to hack into one of the <b><span style="color: blue;">main proxy server</span></b> of the Pakistan Government, which is being used to manage all the government websites. Once the hacker gained the access to the proxy server, he managed to take down those websites.<br />
The attack on the websites are supposed to be severe as it has been over 24 hours and the websites are still down at the time of writing.<br />
<br />
The hacker posted a message on his Facebook profile saying, “Poor Pakistan no matter how hard you try we can bypass those security anytime we want. Before making a statement in media against India think twice.”<br />
<b><span style="color: red;">Godzilla aka G.O.D</span></b> is the same hacker who launched a cyber attack last year on a number of servers owned by the Pakistani government, causing a number of official departmental websites, including the Ministry of Science and Technology, Ministry of Information Technology and Ministry of Economic Affairs & Statistics, to crash.<br />
<br />
This is not the first time, the hacker was also responsible for hacking Pakistan government and Bangladesh government websites multiple times in past.<br />

Today Federal Investigation Agency ( FIA ) has arrested a Pakistani hacker who was involved in hacking of different Telecom companies databases and he upload their databases to his own website, with the help of National Response Center for Cyber Crime ( NR3C ) , FIA was able to trace the hacker and arrest the hacker who hacked into the databases if Warid Telecom and other Abu-Dhabi based telecoms which provided services to Pakistani , Congo and Uganda. Mubashar Shahzad is believed that he have downloaded the databases of different Telecom companies and uploaded it to his own website and exposed it online on his site which was earlysms.com which was hosted by HosterPK. Investigation was started after one complaint submitted to senior manager if cellular companies saying , ‘information of its consumers till 2006 had been exposed over the internet.’  Usman Anwar , Director of FIA told The Express Tribune that , " A technical/forensic analysis found that the website was being hosted by HosterPK. The FIA traced the IP Address , email addresses and phone numbers of the suspect through the hosting company." The IP Address was traced to Ghala Mandi , Kasur from where the authorities arrested Mubashar Shahzad and seized his laptop , there was a folder on his dekstop named "Waird Data" and many of the external hard drives were also seized by NR3C and the website on which he exposed the telecom companies data is also shut downed.</div>

The Ministry of Information Technology (MoIT) has finalized a draft 
proposal to make provision for the prevention of electronic crimes in 
the country.<br />

As stated in the draft, the Act is named the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act, 2014.<br />

Such an Act was definitely required in Pakistan as the use of IT 
across the country has grown exponentially in the past few years. Both 
businesses and individuals will surely welcome the implementation of 
this Act.<br />

Commenting on the Draft the Minister of State for Information 
Technology and Telecom Ms. Anusha Rehman stated, “We are going to table a
 comprehensive Cyber crime bill before the cabinet which has been 
prepared in consultation with all stakeholders over the last 3 years. 
International best practices have been taken in to consideration while 
drafting it.”<br />

The submission of the Draft to the cabinet is expected this week. The
 State Minister chaired a meeting to review the final draft of the bill.
 The meeting was also attended by Mr. Akhlaq A. Tarrar, Secretary IT, 
Mr. Muhammad Amir Malik, Member (IT), Mr. Yasir Qadir, Member (Telecom) 
and representatives from Ministry of law, PTA, FIA and representative of
 ISPAK, PASHA and Barrister Zahid Jamil.<br />

It is learned that Barrister Zahid Jamil – and his team – drafted the bill.<br />

Once implemented, Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act, 2014 will help
 curb the illegal and unauthorized access to information system. The 
abuse and misuse of technology should be addressed under this Cyber 
Crimes Law.<br />

According to the draft bill posted on MoIT’s website, the Act will 
deal with Illegal access to information system, Illegal access to 
program or data, Illegal interference with program or data, Illegal 
interference with information system, Cyber terrorism, Electronic 
forgery, Electronic fraud, Identity crime, Special protection of women 
amongst many other things.<br />

Only the investigation officer of the investigation agency will have the power of arrest.<br />

According to the proposed draft, the Federal Investigation Agency 
(FIA) or any other investigating agency May be appointed by the Federal 
Government for cases of cyber crime.<br />

The draft bill proposes that ‘The Federal Government may cooperate 
with any foreign Government, 27 x 7 network, any foreign agency or any 
international agency for the purposes of investigations or proceedings 
concerning offences related to information systems, electronic 
communication or data.’<br />

The bill further adds that no person whether it is a police officer 
or investigation officer, other than an investigating officer of the 
special investigation agency, has the authority to investigate the 
offence under this Act.<br />

<h4>
<span style="font-weight: bold;">Punishments:</span></h4>
E-Crime bill has suggested following punishments for cyber/E-crimes:<br />

<ul>
<li>As per draft regulation, a person accessing an information system – 
any device that has processing power, operates electronically and stores
 sensitive and private data – without authorization may face 
imprisonment for up to six months and a fine of up to Rs. 100,000 or 
both. Changing content of information system may result into 
imprisonment of up to nine months or a fine of up to Rs. 200,000.</li>
<li>Unauthorized destruction/deletion of data may result into 
imprisonment of up to three years or a fine of up to Rs. 500,000 or 
both.</li>
<li>Accessing an information system to spread panic/fear or if such 
access is rated as severe cyber terrorism then punishment can extent to 
imprisonment for up to fourteen years or a fine of up to Rs. 50 million 
or both.</li>
<li>Electronic forgery will be punished with imprisonment of up to two years or a fine of up to Rs. 200,000 or both</li>
<li>If electronic fraud is found and proved then guilty can face an 
imprisonment of up to five years or a fine of up to Rs. 10 million or 
both.</li>
<li>If someone is found guilty of posing another person’s identity then 
he/she may face imprisonment of three months of a fine of Rs. 50,000 or 
both</li>
<li>Unauthorized interception of private data (for example hacking 
emails) can result into imprisonment of two years or a fine up to Rs. 
500,000 or both</li>
<li>Special protection for women: If someone is found publicly spreading
 any content (video/pictures/audio) that may harm the reputation of 
women then he/she may face imprisonment for one year or a fine up to Rs.
 1 million or both</li>

The document detailed that the British intelligence agency GCHQ created fake ‘<i>LinkedIn</i>’ and ‘<i>Slashdot</i>’ pages to spy on computers of Belgacom network engineers. They used a method called “<i>quantum insert</i>”, to redirect employees to fake websites that contained malware using<b> Man in the middle attack</b> to a spoofed server (<i>codenamed "Fox Acid"</i>), which can respond faster than the real one, is placed somewhere on the Internet backbone.</div>

The company had filed the complaint against an unknown third party to <i>Belgian federal police (FCCU)</i>
 and granted its full support to the investigation, which revealed that 
Quisquater’s computer was allegedly hacked in the same way as

He had fallen victim to the same ‘<i>quantum insert</i>’ attack in which
 by responding to a LinkedIn message actually redirected him to a 
copycat website that infected his computer with spying malware.</div>

often receive that kind of mail. I didn't open it; I just looked at the

the person's profile," </i>Prof. Quisquater told reporters. He also added,<i>"My

<i>CBC News</i> <a href="http://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/csec-used-airport-wi-fi-to-track-canadian-travellers-edward-snowden-documents-1.2517881" target="_blank">reported</a> that the US Intelligence agency worked with its counterpart <i>Communications Security Establishment Canada (CSEC)</i>
 in Canada, and slurped information from the free Internet hotspots to 
track anyone who passed through the airport terminal, and could be 
tracked throughout the country by cross-referencing it with the 
intercepted information from Wifi at cafes, libraries and other public 
places, although it is not clear that they were tracking only the users 
who logged-in to the WiFi services or not.</div>

But It is also possible that one
 can capture the MAC addresses of all the available devices within the 
range of a Wi-Fi device (using some special tools like <i>Aircrack-NG</i>,
 a wifi hacking toolkit), even without making a login connection, where 
the MAC address of the traveler's device represents its unique 
identification. Same capturing devices were implemented  throughout the 
country in all public places, hotels, coffee shops and restaurants, 
libraries, ground transportation hubs, movie halls etc. to capture the 
MAC addresses.</div>

Using a database of all 
collected MAC addresses from all over the country, it becomes possible 
for the spy agencies to track the location of a traveler by 
cross-referencing its unique identification i.e. MAC address.</div>

The Document shows the federal 
intelligence agency was collecting MAC addresses also in the U.S. 
Airports, and literally at other thousands of public places in the U.S.</div>

In a written statement provided by the CSEC to CBC news states that it is "<i>mandated
 to collect foreign signals intelligence to protect Canada and 
Canadians. And in order to fulfill that key, foreign intelligence role 
for the country, CSEC is legally authorized to collect and analyze 
metadata.</i>" They also added that, "<i>No Canadian communications were (or are) targeted, collected or used.</i>"</div>

 can't see any circumstance in which this would not be unlawful, under

A really bad year for the world's second-largest email service provider, <b>Yahoo Mail</b>! The company <a href="http://yahoo.tumblr.com/post/75083532312/important-security-update-for-yahoo-mail-users" target="_blank">announced</a> today, '<i>we identified a coordinated effort to gain unauthorized access to Yahoo Mail accounts</i>', user names and passwords of its email customers have been stolen and are used to access multiple accounts.</div>

Yahoo did not say how many accounts have been affected, and neither they
 are sure about the source of the leaked users' credentials. It appears 
to have come from a third party database being compromised, and not an 
infiltration of Yahoo's own servers.</div>

"<i>We have no evidence that they were obtained directly from Yahoo’s 
systems. Our ongoing investigation shows that malicious computer

For now, Yahoo is taking proactive actions to protect their affected users, "<i>We
 are resetting passwords on impacted accounts and we are using second 
sign-in verification to allow users to re-secure their accounts. 
Impacted users will be prompted (if not, already) to change their 
password and may receive an email notification or an SMS text if they 
have added a mobile number to their account.</i>" </div>

People frequently use the same passwords on multiple accounts, so 
possibly hackers are brute-forcing Yahoo accounts with the user 
credentials stolen from other data breaches. </div>

Yahoo users can prevent account hijacks by using a strong and unique password. You can use 'Random strong password generator' feature of <i>DuckDuckGo search engine</i> to get a unique & strong password. </div>

Users are also recommended to enable two-factor authentication, which 
requires a code texted to the legitimate user's mobile phone whenever a 
login attempt is made from a new computer.</div>
