Telenor has <b><span style="color: blue;">17 Support Centers</span></b> where hundreds of people are working and as a consequence of this sudden decision the employees are going to lose their job. Customers now will turn to <b><span style="color: blue;">289</span></b> <b><span style="color: blue;">Franchises</span></b> that are opened in many cities across Pakistan to get after sale services.</div>

<b><span style="color: blue;">Pakistan Telecommunication Authority</span></b>, in a recent development, has asked Pakistani Internet service providers to block the access of <b><span style="color: blue;">WordPress.com</span></b> in Pakistan. As of now, the website is inaccessible on all major Pakistani ISPs.<br />

Just to be recalled, WordPress is a blogging platform that hosts millions of blogs from across the world.<br />
<br />
While we don’t have any word from <b><span style="color: blue;">PTA</span></b> on why this decision was made and on what grounds such popular and so widely used blogging platform was blocked, we anticipate that it will get unblocked soon.<br />

Not to be mentioned, <b><span style="color: blue;">PTA</span></b> was just granted the powers to monitor content on Internet and block any indecent, blasphemous or anti state website. Previously such decisions were made by inter-ministerial committee that was dissolved on directions of a recently issued court order. Prime minister of Pakistan, after inter-ministerial committee was dissolved, granted <span style="color: blue;"><b>PTA</b></span> the authority to control content on the Internet.<br />

We have seen <b><span style="color: blue;">PTA</span></b> in past making decisions in haste, and later reversing them.<br />

It appears now that blocking decision is somewhat related to Pakistan day.<br />

Source, who wanted to remain unnamed, said that exact content that caused the blockade can’t be revealed due to seriousness of the matter.<br />

Source further confirmed that <b><span style="color: blue;">WordPress.com</span></b> will be unblocked in two days from now.</div>

Restructuring at Mobilink has entered in its next round where more 
employees are going to see the exit doors, most probably tomorrow 
evening. <br />

Mobilink said that its aim is to fine-tune organization’s 
productivity with right-sizing the head-count to ultimately relieve 
pressure from increasing operating expenditure, which has become a major
 concern for VimpelCom.<br />

It appears that group level brunt is now going to be borne by the 
Mobilink employees in Pakistan, which contributes major part of revenues
 for Moscow based VimpelCom group. <br />

Our well placed sources tell that  Mobilink has plans to off-load at 
least two dozen employees from finance department this time, from the 
head office and other regions. Moreover, another few dozens employees 
from technical department are also going to lose their jobs with-in next
 few weeks.<br />

Not to forget that at least 30 employees from sales department were 
shown the doors just last Friday. This was in addition to over <a href="http://rexhacker.blogspot.com/2013/11/firing-spree-mobilink-lays-off-another.html" target="_blank">250 employees that were fired from Technical department</a> with-in last six months.<br />

Our sources say that restructuring has caused various positions at 
Mobilink to become redundant. For instance the finance tasks at various 
channels are now being handled by customer support people leaving 
finance guys to become almost valueless for the company.<br />

Similarly, there are other efforts being made to add more functions 
and responsibilities for some of the staff to ultimately off-load the 
remaining work-force. Outsourcing technical department was part of the 
same strategy.<br />

While there is no denying of the fact that Telecom industry is not in
 its best times these days (see financial reports of telcos for 
elaboration), however, such massive lays-off are definitely going to 
worsen the already weakening economy of the country.</div>

At a time when Information Memorandum for 3G auction is about to get 
released and auction for next generation licenses is just around the 
edge, the appointment of Chairman of Pakistan Telecommunication Authority Dr. Ismail Shah has been challenged in the Islamabad High Court.<br />

Petition comes from Mr. Nasim Arshad Rana through his counsel 
Barrister Gohal Ali contending that appointment of Dr. Ismail Shah was 
against PTA’s act.<br />

Not to mention, Mr. Nasim Arshad was also contesting for the chairmanship of PTA, which was bestowed to Dr. Ismail Shah when <a href="http://rexhacker.blogspot.com/2013/09/sc-rejects-govts-request-orders-to.html" target="_blank">Supreme Court had directed the government</a> to appoint chairman at earliest to <a href="http://rexhacker.blogspot.com/2013/09/sc-rejects-govts-request-orders-to.html" target="_blank">urgently peruse the auction of next-gen licenses</a> in the country.<br />

In his petition, Mr. Nasim Arshad Rana cited Federation of Pakistan, Secretary Establishment, and Chairman PTA as respondents.<br />

Petition argued that chairman PTA could not be appointed without appointing the required numbers of members of PTA.<br />

It maybe recalled that Member Technical wasn’t appointed when Dr. 
Ismail Shah was made the chairman. In fact the slot for member technical
 is still vacant.<br />

The counsel maintained that this appointment is also against the 
directions of Supreme Court since the apex court had instructed to 
appoint the heads of all semi-government organisations through a 
competent commission.<br />

Therefore, the petition, prayed the court to declare the appointment of Chairman PTA as null and void.</div>

Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL) has opened its 
doors to the talented youth of Pakistan through its ‘One-Year Paid 
Internship Program 2014’.<br />

The program enables fresh graduates to develop essential skills and 
gain the necessary experience required to compete in today’s fast-paced 
and challenging job market.<br />

Commenting on this initiative President and CEO PTCL Walid Irshaid 
said, “At PTCL, we believe in contributing towards the socio-economic 
progress of the country through various community development 
initiatives and we would continue exploring innovative ways like this to
 serve the society.”<br />

He further added, “I am confident that such programs will play an

A batch comprising of 500 interns has been selected after going 
through the assessment process. The successful interns who have joined 
the program will be paid a stipend amounting to Rs.15,000 per month.<br />

PTCL began this One-year Paid Internship program in 2012 with 
departments including engineering, finance, marketing, customer care, 
IT, Human Resource, and others. 50 top performers of the first batch 
were offered an opportunity to work as full-time employees at PTCL, 
while 100 interns were hired by various organizations upon completion of
 the one year term. The rigorous and challenging program also led to 283
 more interns getting jobs during the continuity of the program.<br />

“This program is designed to develop and enhance the capacity of our 
youth and we plan to explore such innovative approaches which serve the 
community in future as well”, commented Syed Mazhar Hussain, Chief Human

Pakistan’s call center industry has established itself to be one of 
the most popular and successful sector of the country. The reason behind
 this success is that it has created vast employment opportunities for 
youngsters who have very little or no work experience and skills.<br />
In a country like Pakistan, where unemployment rate is high, such job
 opportunities are bound to be welcomed by job seeking individuals.<br />
Fresh graduates take this opportunity as sunshine towards a bright 
future. Call center jobs are easily accessible and act as a good starter
 to generate income. If you have strong communication skills and feel 
you can talk to people over the phone with authority and confidence then
 that’s all what you need to get a job with a call centrer.<br />
Once you get the job things look quite exiting. Till the trainings 
are undergone it remains a fun, but once that’s over the real work 
begins. It does get boring and frustrating in a few weeks as you start 
the routine of answering one call after the other. Especially when most 
of the times customers are calling in to abuse you over different issues
 including balance deduction without his/her knowledge, network issues 
and so on.<br />
When you are unemployed and get a chance to work at a BPO, your 
communication skills are enhanced and you learn tactics to handle calls 
efficiently, but still when the pros and cons are compared, its long 
term benefits are far less.<br />
The repetitive nature of most call centers can be both good and bad 
simultaneously. If you’re feeling down and don’t want to go to work any 
day, the repetition can help you as you will not have to put in too much
 effort in your work. The negative side is that, at some point you will 
get bored of the monotonous nature of the BPO or call center industry.<br />
I still remember the days when I worked at a call center and used to 
come home after work. I simply hated answering calls from anyone or even
 seeing someone’s name appear on my cell phone’s screen. I became rude, 
irritated, and began hating myself. There were severe impacts on my 
family life and I had to practically abandon my friends circle.<br />
Job seekers take this opportunity as a first step towards the 
corporate world, but unfortunately only a few actually end up 
successfully shifting to a better job; most of them remain stuck in this
 job forever.<br />

Long hours of work, permanent night shifts, incredibly high work 
targets and loss of identity are amongst some of the major factors 
adversely affecting the lives of employees affiliated with the call 
center industry in Pakistan.<br />
The nature of work in call centers is such that an agent is made to 
work on a chair, continuously for nine hours, whereby he/she is forced 
to read a pre-scripted document at the start of a call for every 
customer. This tedious routine literary made me a psycho, insomniac, and
 rude individual with a disturbing my life as a whole. It’s one of the 
looniest jobs in the world as you are surrounded by your colleagues and 
friends constantly talking on the phone in 8 to 9 hour long shifts, with
 just 15 minute tea breaks and 30 minute lunch breaks in between.<br />
This frustration, tension and depressive nature of a call center job 
is driving our youth into adoption of unusual and abnormal behaviors 
and poses a serious threat to the society and is weakening our roots and
 culture.<br />
In my opinion, the worst part about working at a call center is the 
overly strict rules and regulations. Generally, if you are more than a 
few minutes late you receive a negative ‘point’. If you get a certain 
number of ‘points’ you will be fired instantly regardless of how good 
you are at your job.<br />
In some cases things are even worse than words can describe. I myself
 worked at a call center of a cellular company in Pakistan and I and was
 deprived of any employee benefits besides my salary. In addition to 
this, we were also dispossessed of basic employee rights, for instance, 
we were not given a single penny for working on public holidays. Taking a
 day off even for medical reasons is an uphill task there.<br />
We worked in 9 hour long shifts and were given just a single day off 
after 6 days of work which is extremely tough; other call centers 
generally give at least two days off weekly.<br />
It is indeed a challenging job that requires tackling different 
customers which include good, bad, abusive, moody and at times 
aggressive clients. You require a tactful approach to address the needs 
and issues of the customer.<br />
A lot of sacrifice and commitment is required from an agent to work 
during night shifts and to alter his/her life to adapt to a new 
lifestyle; hence I salute all CSO’s (Customer Support Officers) for 
adjusting to such a tough lifestyle.<br />
One year work experience with this industry is enough. A CSO gets far
 away from his social life and develops habits of rudeness and 
frustration in life. A CSO requires a lot of patience even when a 
customer is annoying and using abusive language. You end up taking out 
this frustration in your life outside your work place which impacts your
 relationship with your friends and family; please keep in mind that no 
job is worth more than these closely knit relationships.<br />
Opting for a job in a call center might not be the best job in the 
world, but it is better than being unemployed and sitting at home. 
However, I sincerely request youngsters not to consider it as a long 
term carrier.</div>

Pakistan government is making all possible efforts to bring in new 
operators for participation in expected 3G auction that is planned 
with-in next couple of months.<br />

Anusha Rehman, Minister for IT and Telecom and Dr. Ismail Shah, 
Chairman, Pakistan Telecommunication Authority are on their visits to 
Middle Eastern and European markets to arrange road-shows for 3G auction
 in Pakistan.<br />

Anusha Rehman visited Qatar
 and met Qatari regulator and telecom operators to invite them for 
participation in Pakistan’s next-gen license auction. Similarly Dr. 
Ismail Shah met with Saudi regulator and telecom operators in Saudi 
Arabia to convince them about the potential that Pakistani market bears 
for telecom players with next-gen telecom services.<br />

Dr. Ismail Shah, according to <a href="http://www.arabnews.com/news/525921" target="_blank">Arab News</a>,
 first time hinted that a 1800Mhz 4G license – in addition to 2100 Mhz 
3g licenses – might also go on for auction. 1800Mhz is considered a rich
 spectrum for LTE deployments, making it extremely viable for the 
investors to cap the untapped broadband market of Pakistan.<br />

Chairman of Board of Saudi Telecom, Abdulaziz A. Alsugair, during his
 meeting with Dr. Shah showed his enthusiasm in the upcoming auction, 
acknowledging that statistics pertaining to opportunities in Pakistan 
were highly attractive.<br />

Pakistan has currently mere 2 percent broadband penetration with less than 3 million subscribers. <a href="http://rexhacker.blogspot.com/2014/01/3g-can-trigger-pakistans-economy-by.html" target="_blank">Estimates suggest</a>
 that with 3G and 4G networks the number of broadband subscribers can 
cross 20 million mark in just less than three years. This translates to 
over Rs. 50 billion in quarterly revenues per telco by 2018 or double 
the revenues of what the largest telecom operator is currently 
generating in Pakistan now.<br />

Dr. Ismail Shah and Anusha Rehman has plans to visit Turkey and UK during this week.<br />

Next-gen telecom licenses are being planned for auction during March-April 2014.<br />

Government is intending to maximize the money generated through 
auction by making sure that new foreign operators also take part in the 
auction.<br />

At least four operators in Pakistan namely Telenor Pakistan, 
Mobilink, Ufone and Zong of China Mobile have already shown interest in 
the auction.</div>

Zouhair A. Khaliq has stepped down as Board Member of Wateen Telecom,

Naeem Zamindar was appointed CEO at the same time and together this 
team brought in key new members to strengthen the management team and 
address the challenges at the Company.<br />

Zouhair led the restructuring effort as Chairman of the Board Executive Committee.<br />

The Company went private by de-listing from the Stock Exchanges, strengthened the LDI business and charted a new strategy for its fibre business.<br />

The EBITDA margin decreased by 8 percentage points primarily coming 
from increased commissions as last year was affected by the government

International Clearing House (ICH) to non-mobile revenues and declining 
levels of domestic interconnect traffic.<br />
Average monthly minutes per user increased from 217 during Q4 2012 to 245 during Q4 2013.<br />

Cellular Subscribers in Pakistan Reach 132.33 Million

Cellular subscribers in Pakistan reached 132,333,853 at the end of 
November 2013, as per stats made available by Pakistan Telecommunication
 Authority.<br />

All five operators added 800,071 subscribers during the month of 
November 2013, while around 2 million subscribers were added during 
October 2013. Zong remained the major contributor for both the months, 
with over one million subscribers’ addition during October 2013 only, 
which is quite amazing but its astonishingly strange.<br />

Teledensity for cellular subscribers reached all time high at 73.5 percent.<br />

Mobilink still leads the market with 37.72 million subscribers, while
 Telenor remains at second slot with 33 million subscribers. Ufone came 
along on third position with its 25 million subscribers.<br />

Zong is fast catching up with Ufone with 23.72 million subscribers.<br />
