Pakistan to Block Import of Mobile Phones Without IMEI

Pakistan Telecommunication Authority has reiterated its earlier viewpoint of not allowing import of cellphones/smartphones that ship without any IMEI or with fake IMEI number.<br />

According to a report published in <a href="http://www.dawn.com/news/1074452/pakistan-blocks-sale-of-mobile-phones-without-pta-approval" target="_blank">Dawn.com</a>,
 PTA has written a letter to Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) and has 
asked the board to not to clear consignments of cellular phones if the 
importer has not obtained clearance from PTA.<br />

Importers and manufacturers will now have to submit these 
specification details to the PTA to get approval under section 29 of the
 Pakistan Telecommunications (Re-Organisation) Act, 1996.<br />

Pakistan Telecommunication Authority has long been working to block the sale of phones that come without IMEI.<br />

Mobile phone manufacturers, to keep the cost low, ship phones without
 IMEI. This IMEI, a 14 digit unique identifier of each and every phone, 
is obtained by mobile phone manufacturers from GSMA against a cost.<br />

It merits mentioning here that import of phones without IMEI is banned in various other regional markets.<br />

Phones without IMEI numbers are usually not traceable and potentially
 become a threat for National Security and law and order situation in 
the country.<br />

To further straighten the situation in the country, Pakistan 
Telecommunication Authority may block all such phones (without IMEI) 
that are operating in Pakistan.<br />

This development will hamper low-cost Chinese phones, that are notorious for having no IMEI numbers.</div>

QMobile has just revealed a new smartphone in the Noir V5. The phone 
comes with 5.7 inch HD display, quad-core processor and a metallic 
design, which put it directly below the <a href="http://rexhacker.blogspot.com/2013/11/qmobile-announces-two-new-top-of-line.html" target="_blank">Quatro Z4</a> flagship in terms of specs and price.<br />

The phone is also quite thin at 7.9mm. The phone comes with dual-sim 
support with the capability of keeping both SIMs active at once.<br />

Under the hood, you’ll get a 1.5Ghz quad-core MT6589 processor, not 
too bad for a phone of this price range. The amount of RAM set is 1 GB, a
 full 1 GB less than the Z4, with 16 GB internal storage, expandable via
 a microSD card slot.<br />

A 13 megapixel camera sits on the back and does 720p HD video, along with a 5 megapixel camera on the front.<br />

available in Black and White flavors.<br />

The phone is available for a price tag of 32,500 PKR. That is 2.5K 
less than the Z4 but still enough to put it in the same league as some 
aging flagships from the big names of the game.<br />

With respectable specs and a nice design though, we really believe 
that this phone will eventually be able to beat them easily. Just don’t 
hope for regular software updates.</div>

Senior leaders from Microsoft along with some of their very prominent
 customers of the local industry got together at the Windows VIP Summit 
that took place at the Pearl Continental Hotel in Karachi yesterday.<br />

The day-long event laid strong emphasis on Microsoft’s new “Devices 
and Services” strategy. Which is not to say that either of the two are 
new to the company. Microsoft has been producing hardware for over three
 decades now, its devices such as Windows Phone are now about a decade 
old.<br />

Firstly, it is quite clear thanks to some staggering numbers that 
Apple has a lot more money than before. In simple numbers, 77% more.<br />

Secondly, it is a lot more charitable than before. Cook is also more

iWatch makes an arrival in 2014, that streak might continue in the

Samsung has announced the newest addition in its Galaxy line-up, the 
Galaxy Core Advance. The phone boasts a 4.7 inch display with WVGA 
resolution and is the first phone from the company in quite a time to 
not feature any capacitive button under the hood.<br />

The phone, as you would expect, follows the same design language as 
other Samsung’s smartphones. It’s about 9.7mm thick and 145g heavy.<br />

Yahya Khan has been appointed as Chief Financial Services Officer in Telenor Pakistan, said a statement issued by the company.<br />

Yahya will be joining the company from 20 January 2014.<br />

Roar Bjaerum, the outgoing CSFO, will be moving to Bangkok, Thailand as Head of Financial Services Asia for Telenor Group.<br />

Yahya has over 18 years of Banking, supply chain management and 
financial consultancy experience in various industries that include 
companies like ICI, Engro, Unilever, PwC and AXA Life Insurance. He is 
currently working with J.P. Morgan in London, UK as Executive Director 
and has been with J.P. Morgan London since early 2007.<br />

Yahya is a qualified Chartered accountant from PwC London and a 
member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England & Wales.
 In addition to this, Yahya also has a Master’s degree in Operations 
Management from Cranfield University, UK wherein he focused on B2B, B2C 
connectivity and supply chain management techniques.<br />

Punjab Information Technology Board has developed and deployed new 
Ticket Charging System for Traffic Violations that uses Android phones 
and Bluetooth Printer to get the job done.<br />

With this new system, Police Officers will be able to charge traffic violation tickets on the spot.<br />

Upon a violation, Police Officer will enter driver’s license number 
in an Android app to match the number with the central database for 
authenticity. After authentication the type of violation is input in the
 system to ultimately get a printed ticket through bluetooth enabled 
portable printer.<br />

Driver can pay the ticket charges to get the license back.<br />

With the deployment of this new system, the individual log of

the challenges faced by drivers on the road.<br />

This new electronic system of charging tickets will not only speed-up
 the whole process, but will bring in more transparency to once 
notorious traffic ticketing system.</div>

 desktop computers and smartphones.<br />

It is devised to grant flexibility to the Android users by making the
 file transfer between mobile devices simple and brisk, without the 
requisite of any Wireless Connectivity.<br />

In order to make it work with your device, your phone must need to 
run Android 4.0 or higher since it is explicitly intended for devices 
with Android’s On The Go (OTG) connectivity, which is usual in most

ICH Policy to be Reviewed by December 31st: Chairman PTA

ICH Policy, under which all international traffic is terminated 
through PTCL and revenues are shared by 14 LDI operators based on their 
pre-ICH market share, is to be re-visited by IT Ministry by December 
31st, 2013, said Dr. Ismail Shah, Chairman Pakistan Telecommunication 
Authority.<br />

As per a directive from PTA that was based on ICH Policy, the 
authority had asked all LDI operators to not to terminate international 
incoming traffic on their networks. Instead, PTCL was authorized to 
bring Pakistan’s international incoming traffic on behalf of all 
operators.<br />

Moreover, ASR and APC rates were also revised with the implementation of ICH.<br />

The new international termination rate set by the PTA was $0.088 per minute, an increase of approximately four hundred percent over the competitive market rate of approximately $0.02 per minute that existed prior to the ICH agreement.<br />

14 Long Distance and International operators had bribed former Prime 
Minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf, former President Mr. Asif Ali Zardari and 
then secretary IT, revealed Mr. Wahaj-us-Siraj, in a TV show on Dunya TV

Mr. Wahaj-us-Siraj, CEO at Nayatel/Micronet and Convener of ISPAK, 
said that a sum of Rs. 800 Million was pooled from LDI operators to 
bribe then Prime Minister, then President and then Secretary IT Mr. 
Farooq Awan to get ICH implemented in the country.<br />

It merits mentioning here that CCP had made all its efforts to stop ICH due to its anti-competitive nature but Ministry of IT approved the policy directive for implementation of ICH.<br />

Mr. Wahaj further claimed that these government officials were 
regularly receiving bribe money of Rs. 100 to 150 million per month from
 LDI operators.<br />

Mr. Wahaj maintained that then government wanted to achieve two 
targets; one was bribe money while another goal was to strengthen grey 
mafia which had more incentive (read margins) for terminating grey 
traffic into Pakistan after ICH.<br />

Due to ICH, rates for international incoming calls to Pakistan surged by 300 to 800 percent. Operators, in return, earned 300 percent more revenues from international traffic.<br />

Government had then justified the ICH by claiming that national 
exchequer will be benefited with more tax money through ICH, however, 
facts suggest that Pakistan made less money for exchequer after ICH due 
to decrease in international traffic from 1.9 billion minutes per month 
(before ICH) to just 400 million minutes per month (today).</div>

“Similarly Telenor Pakistan or its group can’t advertise 4G while it 
is not offering the service in Pakistan”, the official said.<br />
Telenor, in response, is removing the line “We are 4G-LTE” from the hoarding to comply with regulator’s directions.</div>

PTCL to Offer Data Hosting Services for EDG’s E-Office Project

PTCL and Electronic Government Directorate (EGD) yesterday signed an 
agreement according to which PTCL will offer data hosting facilities for
 the implementation of E-office project, said a statement issued by 
Ministry of IT and Telecom.<br />

Ms. Anusha Rehman, Ministry for IT and Telecom, earlier chaired a meeting where modalities of the agreement were finalized.<br />

Ms. Rehman termed the agreement an historic moment as the E-office 
replication project finally entered into the implementation phase.<br />

The Minister noted with deep regret that E-government project 
remained unimplemented since 2007, only because EGD/PCB could not

the team at Ministry of IT will ensure that this project is implemented 
within stipulated time period.<br />

The Minister reiterated that the security of the E-office system is 
the most important element so that no one would be able purge the 
record. As the security, transparency and efficiency are the key 
features of the project, the Minister also directed the EGD/PCB to make 
all necessary arrangements for the training of the officials of all 
Ministries so that we could get maximum benefits.<br />

In the implementation phase the work will be monitored expeditiously 
against KPI’s/targets and no further delay would be tolerated Minister 
added.<br />

It merits mentioning here that PTCL was awarded the project without publicly tendering the requirements.<br />

Ministry of IT believes that its an interim solution provided by 
PTCL, during which NTC will get its own data centre to finally provision
 hosting facilities for the E-Office project.</div>

According to a report from The Verge, Nokia might be making a device 
running a dumbed-down version of Android. The device code-named Normandy
 lies in the budget range just as the Ashas.<br />
Judging from the sole photograph leaked, the smartphone does seem to 
be inspired by the Asha 501 with its youth-ish design and a single 
button (capacitive though) on the front.<br />

The operating system running won’t be full-fledged Android at all, 
like Amazon’s Kindle Fire tablets, but rather a version which will just 
be enough to run popular apps made for the Android.<br />

Meanwhile the project is going “full steam ahead”. With its deal, 
valued at $7.2 billion, settled with Microsoft, it may not see sunshine 
in its life at all and may be killed even before it is released but 
we’ve seen stranger things happen.<br />

Its maker plans to release it in 2014, interesting because the Microsoft deal is said to be getting finalised in 2014.<br />

The reports of Nokia joining Samsung, HTC, LG and more than a hundred
 others in the Android field aren’t anything new. Those started even 
before the company joined hands with Microsoft to make Windows Phones 
and have seen been arising every once in a while.<br />

If history plans on repeating itself yet again, then this round of 
rumours are destined to remain fruitless, but again, who knows.</div>

Google/YouTube has conditionally agreed to launch localized version 
of YouTube in Pakistan that will work in-line with local authorities to 
block blasphemous content with-in Pakistani borders, <a href="http://www.dawn.com/news/1061799/google-may-localise-youtube-for-pakistani-users" target="_blank">reported Dawn.com</a>.<br />

Citing the Minister for IT and Telecom, Ms. Anusha Rehman, the paper 
said that this new arrangement will give birth to YouTube.com.pk or 
YouTube.PK, a local version of YouTube in Pakistan.<br />

Ms. Rehman was cited as saying that government of Pakistan has 
succeeded in convincing the Google management about religious 
sensitivities of Pakistanis.<br />

She was explaining the situation to a Standing Committee of Senate yesterday.<br />

Anusha Rehman further unveiled that Google wants not to be held 
responsible for any blasphemous content uploaded on its sites as that 
will be a personal action of the individual. Google, however, will work 
closely with government of Pakistan to get any such blasphemous content 
blocked in Pakistan.<br />

Google, according to the minister, has asked Government’s guarantee 
in this regard, for which a detailed draft is being prepared by Pakistan

Anusha said that this draft ordinance – after finalization — will be processed by the ministry for enactment as law.<br />

After this localized version of YouTube, Ms. Rehman further 
explained, Pakistan won’t require any costly filtration mechanisms. 
Instead Google will easily be able to block blasphemous content on the 
request of the Pakistan government.<br />

“Saudi Arabia and Malaysia have also reached a similar arrangement with Google,” Anusha Rehman said.<br />

Localising YouTube would also mean that Google will not be violating 
its own company law of hindering freedom of expression, the state 
minister explained.<br />

Responding to a question from the members, the minister said she could not give an exact date for the re-opening of YouTube.<br />

It maybe recalled that YouTube is banned in Pakistan since September 17th, 2012 for not blocking blasphemous content in Pakistan.</div>

Rather curiously, the chip isn’t targeting the upper-end category but
 rather the starter range. They’re made with a 28nm process, same as the
 high-end SnapDragon 800. It also comes with the new Adreno 306 GPU 
which supports 1080p Full HD video playback.<br />

Camera modules of up to 13 megapixels are supported.<br />

But the biggest attraction is the rich connectivity-set. The

Apart from this lies the usual stuff: NFC, Bluetooth, FM, GPS, GLONASS and Wi-Fi support.<br />

smartphones. Qualcomm says that devices under the $150 margin will come 
with it. It’s clear that even a budget smartphone of today is better 
than the flagships of 4 years ago.<br />

Anusha Rehman, Minister of State for IT and Telecom, yesterday met 
with Mr. Walid Irshaid, CEO and President of PTCL, to discuss the matter
 of pending Etisalat payment towards government of Pakistan.<br />
Etisalat is holding a USD 800 million or PKR 80 billion payment to Government of Pakistan from 26 percent stakes purchase in PTCL in 2005.<br />
PTCL, in the past, has always maintained that matter of pending 
payments is between Etisalat and Privatization Commission and that 
company has nothing much to do about this.<br />

However, for the first time, Mr. Walid Irshaid is reported in media 
to have discussed the matter of outstanding Etisalat payments.<br />
It maybe recalled that Etisalat – <a href="http://rexhacker.blogspot.com/2013/10/ptcl-submits-non-binding-offer-to.html" target="_blank">through PTCL</a> — is aggressively perusing to get cent percent hold of Warid Telecom in Pakistan. However, <a href="http://rexhacker.blogspot.com/2013/11/pakistan-may-block-etisalat-warid-deal.html" target="_blank">Pakistan is looking to block the deal</a> if Etisalat decides to not to clear the pending payment.<br />
Sources tell RexHacker that Etisalat-Warid deal is almost through.
 Both the sides are now evaluating the regulatory approvals and <a href="http://rexhacker.blogspot.com/2013/12/etisalat-warid-deal-raises-socio.html" target="_blank">other post-announcement factors</a> that may impact the deal after it will be announced officially.<br />

Easypaisa Launches ATM Cards

Easypaisa has officially launched the ATM cards for its mobile account holders, reported <a href="http://www.nation.com.pk/business/10-Dec-2013/easypaisa-announces-commercial-launch-of-atm-cards" target="_blank">The Nation</a>.<br />

Paper said that after the soft launch of Easypaisa ATM cards earlier 
this year, Easypaisa has now commercially launched the cards for its mobile account holders.<br />

Easypaisa Mobile Account holders can get their ATM cards from Telenor Service Centres or from Tameer Bank branches.<br />

Card Issuance charges are set at Rs. 200 per ATM card, while transaction charges are Rs. 25 per transaction.<br />

With ATM cards, Easypaisa mobile account holders will no longer be 
required to visit Easypaisa outlets, instead they will be able to

Omar Moeen Malik, Head of Strategy for Easypaisa, Telenor Pakistan 
was quoted as saying that Pakistan is now one of the very few countries 
in the world, where any person with a CNIC can open a free bank account 
on his Mobile Phone in under two minutes, pick up an ATM card and link 
it to his account easily.<br />

Mobile financial service providers are seeing strong growth in their 
person-to-person transactions, which do not require permanent mobile 
accounts.<br />

Number of mobile account holders in the country, on the other hands, 
is not very impressive. However, services such as ATM cards may give 
required incentive to masses to ultimately have mobile accounts. More 
services such as netbanking and mobile apps to manage mobile account can
 further boost the usage.<br />

It maybe recalled that UBL Omni already offers ATM cards to its 
customers. Other mobile financial services are also planning to launch 
ATM cards and mobile apps for their customers to manage their mobile 
accounts.</div>

Recently hired consultants for procuring next generation telecom 
licenses have landed in Pakistan to start working on the Information 
Memorandum for next generation spectrum auction, sources tell RexHacker.<br />
Pakistan Telecommunication Authority recently selected
 “Value Partners Management Consulting Limited” for the procurement of 
next generation spectrum auction. The selection was finalized after 
rigorous evaluation of financial and technical bids from seven 
consultancy firms.<br />
Highly placed sources tell RexHacker that consultants are now in 
Islamabad who signed the agreement with PTA before commencing the task.<br />
Consultants will go ahead with the preparation of Information Memorandum for next generation licenses.<br />

This document will detail all kinds of information relating to 
license auction, such as prerequisites, requirements, criteria for 
operators to participate, base price of license, terms, conditions etc..<br />
Pakistan Telecommunication Authority had prepared a similar document before, based on which auction was to be held on March 29th, 2012. However, things didn’t go as per plans because of non-appointment of consultants, which – according to PPRA Rules — is mandatory for any public sector auctions.<br />
PTA, this time, is making sure that schedule for auctioning 3G/4G 
licenses is met, while on the other hands it is taking good care of all 
necessary and mandatory things.<br />
We have heard that PTA has asked consultants to prepare IM from 
scratch. It is likely that the newly drafted Information Memorandum for 
next generation spectrum auction will surface around mid of January 
2014.<br />
Pakistan is planning to auction 3G/4G licenses by the end of February 2014.</div>

Sindh High Court has restrained the federal government from issuing 
Long Distance and International (LDI) licences under the obsolete 
telecom policy till further orders.<br />

Justice Nadeem Akhtar, who headed the bench, passed the stay order on
 a private telephone operator’s petition challenging the notification 
issued by Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) for issuing LDI 
licences under the expired policy.<br />

It maybe recalled that Telecom Policy was formulated in 2003 and was 
to be renewed after every five years, however, the policy is still not 
renewed since it got expired in 2008.<br />

Telecom policy is a document that sets various standards regarding 
telecom services, including the fee of various licenses and spectrums.<br />

The petitioners, Telecard Limited, Redtone Telecommunications and 
Multinet Pakistan, filed plea against Ministry of Information Technology
 secretary and the PTA, saying the PTA is set to auction new LDI 
licenses based on expired policy.<br />

As per this expired policy, anybody – that meets certain criteria – 
could obtain LDI licenses on payment of the prescribed fee of $500,000.<br />

Petitioners said that this fee is dirt low as per current market 
standards and hence government should be restrained from issuing new LDI
 licenses based on expired and out-dated policy and rates.<br />

It merits mentioning here that ministry of information and technology
 was going to issue LDI licences to CMPak as it has issued a 
notification in this regard on November 12, 2013.<br />

Petitioners added that the valuable asset of the country was being 
sold at throwaway prices which could cause billions of losses to the 
telecom sector.<br />

The court was pleaded to declare the notification illegal and direct 
respondents to formulate new deregulating policy for telecom sector.<br />

The bench restrained the federal government from issuing LDI licences
 under the old telecom policy as well as issued notice to respondents to
 file their comments by December 17.<br />

This stay order will blow CMPak’s efforts to obtain new LDI license, for which it was struggling since its inception in 2007.<br />

CMPak, the only cellular operator without LDI license, was earlier denied LDI license in 2007
 due to Government of Pakistan’s agreement with Etisalat, according to 
which Pakistan could not issue any new telecom licenses till March 2013.</div>

Telecom consumers are paying over 35 percent of their loads as taxes

company want to advertise services offered in other parts of World on 
the roads of Islamabad? And that too with the same logo with which it 
operates in Pakistan?<br />

For example, Zong can’t claim to be a 4G network even if its parent 
group is offering the same in China, especially when Zong’s logo is 
exactly the same as of China Mobile’s logo in China. That would be a 
trap to mislead the customers in Pakistan.<br />

The research had published in the <a href="http://www.jocm.us/index.php?m=content&c=index&a=show&catid=124&id=600" target="_blank">Journal of Communications</a> which was led by a team from <a href="http://www.fkie.fraunhofer.de/en.html" target="_blank">Germany’s Fraunhofer Institute for Communication, Information Processing, and Ergonomics.</a><br />

Researchers Michael Hanspach and Michael Goetz managed to use the 
built-in speakers and microphones of computer to transmit passwords and 
other data at a rate of 20 bits per second over a distance of almost 20 
meters, allowing the malware to privately ooze critical data to the 
outer world.<br />

According to the Abstract part of their research paper,<br />

<blockquote>
“We construct a covert channel between different 
computing systems that utilizes audio modulation/demodulation to 
exchange data between the computing systems over the air medium. “</blockquote>
In case you don’t know, a covert channel is a way to transfer 
information between processes that are not authorized to communicate.<br />

Furthermore, the researchers wrote,<br />

<blockquote>
“If we want to exploit a rigorously hardened and tested 
type of computing system or networks of this type of computing system, 
we have to break new ground”.</blockquote>
Oftentimes, Speakers and microphones are disregarded in security 
planning, and by availing frequencies outside the human hearing range it
 is apparent that such data could escape detection even when they are 
transmitted across a crowded workplace.<br />

The analysis used five Lenovo T400 laptops running Debian 7.1, and 
was performed in a standard computer lab with no particularly unusual 
audio characteristics. Transmissions were sent at around 20 kHz and were
 found to be totally inaudible to humans during the experiment. The 
paper suggests that this frequency could be even higher, to make it even
 less probable to be caught, but this would lessen the broadcast range.<br />

During the experiment the researchers were able to covertly log the 
keystrokes made by a user at one computer and broadcast them over audio 
through a chain of other computers until the message was eventually 
passed to a machine connected to the internet, and sent back to a 
malicious attacker despite the fact that the transmission rate is too 
slow.<br />

“Alongside keystroke information it would also be possible to forward
 other security critical data such as private encryption keys or 
small-sized text files with classified information from the infected 
victim to the covert network,” said researchers.<br />

Now there is a good reason for you to disconnect your built-in mics 
and speakers. Although it is pretty impractical, it might be worth doing
 on a governmental level.<br />

We already train dogs to sniff for bombs and drugs. Clearly, the time
 is not very far when we shall be training them to hear the Malwares 
too.<br />

PTA, Its the Time To Act and Save the Industry!

Pakistan’s telecommunication industry, for the past 10 or so years, 
has been highly instrumental in not only generating handsome revenue for
 the government but is also providing relief to the masses by enabling 
them with advanced telecom services and offering job opportunities to 
hundreds of thousands of individuals.<br />

The industry that has suffered badly from the <a href="https://www.google.com/url?q=http://propakistani.pk/2013/05/09/cellular-services-are-likely-to-remain-suspended-in-pakistan-on-may-11th/&sa=U&ei=_xWgUtXENs3bsgb0ooGACA&ved=0CA4QFjAE&client=internal-uds-cse&usg=AFQjCNHw5zUgp_0CK8sXchdO0J2qJTD_4w" target="_blank">law and order situation</a>, security issue, lack of interest of foreign investment,
 is undergoing its worst era since the Telecommunication Ordinance, 1994
 which lead to the establishment of “The Pakistan Telecommunication 
Authority (PTA)”, “Frequency Allocation Board (FAB) and “National 
Telecommunication Corporation (NTC)”.<br />

The purpose of the first two i.e. PTA and FAB were to <strong>maintain fair competition and regulate the telecom industry</strong> and telecom services.<br />

As if law and order situation and the country’s uncertain state of affairs were not enough, the other culprit of this recession in Pakistan’s telecommunication industry
 is PTA, which failed to meet its founding purpose i.e. “to maintain 
fair competition and regulate the telecom industry and telecom 
services”.<br />

In the broad-band internet sector PTA has totally failed to maintain 
any kind of fair competition. “Pakistan Telecommunication Company 
Limited” (PTCL) has clear monopoly; the landline giant backed with a 
huge infrastructure all over the nation has lowered its rates to an 
extent that there is no question of competition. Almost all of the 
remaining broad band service providers are suffering due to the 
situation. Most of these broadband operators have exited, other are planning mergers while the remaining ones are without any investment plans, leading to downsizing and uncertainty amongst their ranks.<br />

So, a big industry has succumbed to monopoly of PTCL and lack of 
regulation by PTA that allowed this without any notice (read 
incompetence). It appears like the term Significant Market Player (SMP) 
is entirely forgotten.<br />

Apart from the above, frequent suspension of mobile services, huge amount of taxes, and blocking of online content
 are some of the issues that are hurting the industry badly in terms of 
revenue, chasing away the investors and hence the repercussions; 
recession in an industry that proved its potential in the past and 
continues to promise much more.<br />

PTA has failed to perform its role, and has failed to understand the business needs of its license holders.<br />

In the current economic situation it is essential for PTA to 
re-evaluate its policies to regain the investor’s confidence, and in 
order to do so they will have to think by putting itself in investors’ 
shoes.<br />

Providing a level playing field where everyone should have equal 
opportunities. Monopoly needs to be broken by setting reasonable tariff 
brackets. Also, before forcing any policy PTA needs to ensure it’s 
financial and business repercussions on the licensees. Its only the last
 chance the authority has got, or things will worsen to a point of no 
return.<br />

While we appreciate the planned auction of 3G and the way PTA has 
carried forward things so far, there is a lot more to be done. Telecom 
and broadband policies expired a long ago, so is the IT Policy, issue of
 MVNO is long pending, quality of service surveys were last conducted in
 2010. And what now? There is a plethora of work to be done and time is 
only ticking.<br />

Proper regulation – even now – and healthy competition can attract 
foreign investment and can make this sector an important contributor to 
the economy of the country again.<br />

An intelligent and business friendly regulator is essential to revive the lost glory of the industry.</div>

Google’s Next Big Project is Regarding Robots

Google is quite experienced when it comes to introducing quirky, new 
and unconventional ideas but this time they might’ve outdone themselves.
 Earlier this year, Andy Rubin, the person behind Android quit his job in favour of a “moonshot”.<br />

As it turns out, that ultimate goal was robotics. Google’s next 
biggest adventure will probably bring robots closer to you, however, in 
which particular way isn’t yet known.<br />

“I have a history of making my hobbies into a career” Andy Rubin told
 the New York Times. “This is the world’s greatest job. Being an 
engineer and a tinkerer, you start thinking about what you would want to
 build for yourself.<br />

“Like any moonshot, you have to think of time as a factor. We need enough runway and a 10-year vision.”<br />

 crazy idea that ended up putting a supercomputer in hundreds of 
millions of pockets. It is still very early days for this, but I can’t 
wait to see the progress.”<br />

It is being guessed that that goal is in refining the process of 
manufacturing but with them, you never know. Google has already brought 
as many as seven companies in Japan and the USA to help it in pursuing 
its passion.<br />

Not much is known regarding the project other than that. With Glass 
and driver-less cars Google may have been able to explore some niche and
 uncommon ideas but its biggest gift to the humanity might eventually 
come in the form of robots.</div>
