Meet XGear, a First of its Kind Car-Human Communication Link, Developed by Pakistanis

The way we interact with technology has changed drastically over the 
last few years. Just think of it, what were our perceptions of phones 
and other gadgets just 10 years ago and what are they now? No doubt that
 our devices are getting more and more integrated into our lives, and 
becoming a part of it.<br />
Yet, one tech item which we interact with (daily) remains an outsider.  That is our car.<br />
It is agreeable that nowadays you can monitor the position of your 
car from anywhere through a GPS – through tracker companies or by 
deploying your own GPS device into the car — but that’s pretty much 
about it.<br />
You never know what’s going on the inside, how does your car ‘feel’ or how is it performing.<br />
XGear, the brainchild of a startup called <a href="http://www.onestepsolutions.biz/" target="_blank">One Step Solutions</a>, is pretty much hoping to solve your the problem.<br />

The product is made all-more interesting by the fact that it’s made 
by some Pakistani guys and is largely developed in Pakistan too. I had 
the chance to sit with Mr. Ahmed Khalid, the co-founder and CEO of the 
company, recently who was kind enough to grant me an email interview.<br />

<span style="font-weight: bold;">The company</span></h4>
Until now, chances are that you’ve never heard of One Step Solutions in your life so far.<br />
What is it all about? According to Ahmed, he and his team have tasked
 themselves with the goal of blending technology seamlessly into your 
life.<br />
“One Step Solutions has a clear vision of using technology to make 
lives simpler,” he says. “Our innovative culture enables us to think out
 of the box to develop remarkable products to make a dent in the 
universe. Over the past years we have developed some of very innovative 
products to make a massive impact on people using them in various 
industries such as an affordable HRM solution which is completely 
integrated with SAP and SAGE, a specialized document scanning and 
storage solution, SMS based authentication of FMCG products, and 
completely revamping the OMR based testing solution to enable people to 
use ink pens, ball points and even markers of any colour to fill in the 
tests.”<br />

<span style="font-weight: bold;">The XGear</span></h4>
But the main focus here is on cars. And on XGear.<br />
XGear is the company’s solution to bringing this spectacularly useful
 component of your life, called a car. closer to you. It consists mainly
 of a hardware dongle which connects to your car’s OBD port (located 
under the dashboard normally).<br />
After docking the device there, the data from your car is sent 
regularly to your phone or PC via the XGear application which will be 
available for iOS, Android and Windows Phone on mobile, and on Windows 
XP, Vista, 7 and 8 for PC.<br />
“The application will let you view your car usage and trip logs over 
time. Feedback on your driving style will help you optimize the fuel 
consumption,” He tells me.<br />
Not only this, but the application will also monitor your speed data,
 the car condition for you to make use of before service, inform you of 
your pre-planned events by sending notifications and work towards making
 your ride eco-friendlier. There will even be a drivers’ social network 
where you can earn achievements and badges based on your driving. This 
all data will get stored on the cloud.<br />
But what if you’ve got an aging car? No worries, as most cars come 
with the OBD port, XGear should work with them. Still for confirmation, 
the company has already tested the device on vehicles by Toyota, Honda, 
Suzuki, BMW, Mercedes, Porsche, KIA and Hyundai.<br />
“XGear should work with pretty much every car manufactured after 1996.”<br />
Mr. Ahmed Khalid was also kind enough to give us an exclusive sneak peek into the product:<br />

Note: This unit here is a prototype. The final unit will be 1/4<sup>th</sup> the size of this particular one and should be able to fit perfectly in just about every car.<br />
But when all is said and covered, the thing which matters most in the
 end is pricing. We know some great products like the Segway, which 
failed only because of high pricing. What about the XGear?<br />
“The price point of the XGear would be around PKR 20,000 including 
the hardware dongle and the software,” Mr. Ahmed said. Mind you, that 
what you’re getting for that price is the entire package which should 
last almost as much as the car itself, according to him.<br />
As for the availability, One Step Solutions wants to release their 
product internationally. The device will hit the markets as soon as the 
end of this year. Negotiations and dealings with many more partners are 
currently being made to popularize the XGear further.<br />
And the future? “My hopes with the XGear are high,” said Ahmed.<br />
“In 5 years I see this running in every car. I have done a very 
optimistic financial modelling, and see Xgear becoming the next big 
thing.”<br />
Calling it the next big thing right now might seem fairly flattering 
(even though they’ve won the Green and Sustainable IT award at the P@SHA
 ICT Awards 2013 and cleared the Startup Pirates program) but then 
again, everything big starts small. This is the primary rule of business
 and nature, which we hope will apply here too.</div>

Pakistan, among the top 5 targets of US National Security Agency, has
 taken steps to secure its cyber front, said a recently published report
 by “<a href="http://www.thenews.com.pk/Todays-News-6-204384-Pakistan-takes-steps-to-protect-itself-from" target="_blank">The News</a>”.<br />
Considering the revelations made by Edward Snowden, it was 
established that NSA may penetrate into Pakistani cyber space again to 
steal sensitive data relating to Pakistan, its domestic politics, 
strategic and economic interests and its nuclear programs, by tapping 
into computer networks of Internet service providers such as email, 
video-sharing, voice-over-IPs, chats and social networking websites.<br />
National Telecom & Information Technology Security Board (NTISB) 
has resultantly framed guidelines/techniques for protecting government 
business from possible hacking attempts from domestic and foreign 
threats.<br />
On recommendation of NTISB, Cabinet Division has communicated the 
guidelines to all ministries, government divisions and departments.<br />
“Recent wave of stealing the sensitive official data by US NSA has 
raised serious concerns warranting the implementation of all policies 
and guidelines in true letter and spirit,” the Cabinet Division noted in
 a letter to all ministries, departments and divisions.<br />
“USA being the leading country in the field of communication and IT 
is using multiple tools mainly through electronic surveillance, ground 
and air intelligence platforms like satellites, recording telephonic 
calls, gathering public pulse through e-mails filtering, radio 
monitoring, communication leaks, vulnerabilities in IT based networks 
carrying sensitive data and other sophisticated means, covertly or 
overtly,” the Cabinet Division noted.<br />
It merits mentioning here that in one of the maps revealed by Edward 
Snowden, based on the amount of telephone and email communication data 
collected by NSA, Iran was shown as the primary target, warranting 14 
billion reports, followed by Pakistan (13.5 billion), Jordan (12.7 
billion), Egypt (7.6 billion) and India (6.3 billion).<br />
Keeping in view the intents of NSA, NTISB framed following guidelines:<br />
<ul>
<li>All government officials and officers must not use private emails (such as Gmail) for exchange of official correspondence</li>
<li>Official data should not be stored/ copied on personal computers and laptops and personal USB at any cost</li>
<li>Official data should not be stored/ copied on computers with internet connection</li>
<li>No official/ classified information should be placed on internet by any means</li>
<li>Uploading of sensitive information on social media should be avoided</li>
<li>Uploading of videos and photos of official meetings should be avoided</li>
<li>Downloading of software from internet should be avoided</li>
<li>All government offices are supposed to get internet connections from National Telecommunication Corporation (NTC) as per policy</li>
<li>Official personal computers (PCs) having sensitive data must not be provided with internet connection</li>
<li>Contents placed on official websites must be properly scrutinised and approved for uploading</li>
<li>Internet usage in government departments be regulated and access be provided with limited user privileges</li>
<li>Internet computers be isolated and the network security must be 
ensured and internet provision be controlled by the highest 
administrative authority in the ministry, division or department.</li>
</ul>
The Security Board noted that presence of sensitive/ official data on
 the web had made the government official entities hostage and 
vulnerable to hostile ingress and sudden access by unknown intelligent 
IT mafias, suspected hackers as well as individual secret agents.<br />
Misuse of this information fairly acquired from such an advanced 
information resource through multiple hacking techniques may invariably 
cause serious threats to national security.<br />
Keeping in view the NSA’s level of deep penetration into computer and
 communication networks, it is assumed that above mentioned guidelines 
aren’t enough to safeguard our national interests.<br />
Further hardening of our ISPs, cellular networks, telecom companies 
and other liaison channels is needed to cent percent protect our 
national secrets.<br />
Not to mention, Android, iOS, Windows, Mac and devices of various 
other makes and kinds are all under NSA’s control that can communicate 
user data to agency’s control room without any hassle.<br />
Definitely, there is a lot more required than just these guidelines.</div>

Dell has become another Microsoft OEM to drop the Windows RT platform as it pulls its XPS 10 tablet from the shelves. <br />
This leaves Microsoft as the only company which is still making tablets running on Windows RT now.<br />
Dell’s official website now lists XPS 10 Tablet, which is a 10 inch 
tablet running on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon S4 processor, as “unavailable”. 
It instead recommends users to buy the Latitude 10, another 10-inch 
tablet but running on Windows 8, thanks to an Intel Atom processor.

The news comes merely days after Microsoft announced the second-generation Surface tablets running on Windows RT and 8.
<br />
Still, while another Windows RT tablet is not off the cards 
completely, hardly anyone is expecting a product running on a failed 
operating system from a company which has seen a rebirth recently.

Until now, companies like Samsung, ASUS
 and Lenovo have already said no to the Windows RT long ago and one 
can’t expect a tablet from them either, probably they’ll return if the 
Surface 2 becomes an unexpected success.</div>

Dr. Syed Ismail Shah has been appointed as the Chairman of Pakistan 
Telecommunication Authority, a high-level source has just confirmed us.<br />
Mr. Tariq Sultan will be the member Finance at the PTA, the source added.<br />
As a regulatory requirement, Dr. Syed Ismail Shah was initially 
appointed as Member Technical, but was soon promoted to the Chairmanship
 of the authority.<br />
Summary for the above mentioned appointments has been approved by the
 Cabinet Division, and notification is being prepared as of now and will
 be issued by day end today.<br />
Third member compliance and Co-ordination was not announced. It is 
likely that slot for member compliance may never get filled before 
required legal amendments in the Telecom Act.<br />
It merits mentioning here that Supreme Court had given today’s deadline for the appointment of Chairman and Members of PTA. Tomorrow is the hearing date for the petition urging an urgent auction of 3G licenses.<br />
Supreme Court had directed the government to appoint Chairman and PTA
 Members with-in 10 days, without which the auction of 3G licenses was 
impossible.<br />
Dr. Syed Islmail Shah has remained Member Telecom in Ministry of 
Information Technology during 2012. Dr. Shah bring with the vast 
experience in the ICT industry and academics at national and 
international level.<br />
He is a Qualcomm certified trainer on 3G technologies and a Life 
Member of the Pakistan Engineering Council, Senior Member, IEEE, USA and
 Member of the Institute of Electronics, Information and Communication 
Engineers, Japan.<br />
Dr. Ismail Shah started his professional carrier in 1989 by joining 
the Telecommunication division of Siemens Engineering Company, 
Islamabad, Pakistan.<br />
He did his PhD in Electrical Engineering from University of 
Pittsburgh, PA, USA. During and after his PhD he also worked at the 
University of Pittsburgh.<br />
On his return to Pakistan in 1998 he joined the GIK Institute. In 
2000, he joined Enabling Technologies and later, the Center for Advanced
 Research and Studies in Engineering.<br />
Dr. Shah taught in the Department of Computing and Technology, Iqra 
University Islamabad Campus in 2004. Syed Ismail Shah, has been 
associated with the Department of Computing and Technology, Iqra 
University Islamabad Campus for more than 5 years and is also the 
Executive Director Central Asian CDMA Forum (CACF).<br />
Mr Tariq Sultan, before becoming the Member Finance, was working as 
DG Finance at PTA. He has previously worked with Canadian Imperial Bank 
of Commerce as Financial Anlyst. He has also worked with NIB Bank in the
 past.<br />
Mr. Sultan has a Master degree in Accounting and Finance from The University of Manchester and an MBA degree from IBA, Karachi.</div>

Ericsson Unveils a Small Portable Device That Can Amplify Cellular Signals

This device is capable of carrying cellular signal to even the most

A petition filed by cellular companies for lifting the ban on night 
packages has been accepted for hearing in Supreme Court of Pakistan.<br />
While expressing its surprises over Pakistan Telecommunication 
Authority’s decision, the court said that why PTA always believed that 
people would use the facility only for romantic chat.<br />
It maybe recalled that Pakistan Telecommunication Authority had banned night packages
 that cellular companies offered. PTA had said that the ban was imposed 
after receiving complaints from Supreme Court of Pakistan, Standing 
Committee of the Parliament, senators, MNAs and subscribers regarding 
the promotion of vulgarity through night packages.<br />
It merits mentioning here that Islamabad High Court had dismissed the petition
 filed by cellular companies against PTA’s decision after telcos had 
withdrawn their petition after Pakistan Telecommunication Authority 
produced transcripts of mobile call recordings it had intercepted during
 late-night conversation of consumers.<br />
Telcos have now approached the Supreme Court with the plea to lift 
the ban on night packages, arguing that purpose of night packages was to
 facilitate people.<br />
Petitioners requested the court to issue an interim order against the IHC verdict.<br />
The PTA’s counsel informed the court that the authority’s human 
rights cell had received several complaints about the misuse of late 
night packages.</div>

Earlier this week on Monday, Google’s Android OS turned five and what
 it has achieved in this remarkably short period of time is really 
unbelievable: 1 billion activations, a market share of 70% and 50 
billion+ app downloads.<br />
That’s a lot considering that half a decade ago, no one had heard about anything called Android.<br />
Well it all started on 23rd September 2008, when Google, HTC and 
T-Mobile teamed up to announced the T-Mobile G1 (international name HTC 
Dream), world’s first smartphone running on Android.<br />
It ran on Android 1.0, which was a far cry from today’s 4.3 Jelly 
Bean. It came without multi-touch, and to the annoyance of the Apple 
cult, a slide-out physical QWERTY keyboard. Still, it did what it was 
most supposed to do, sow the seed which is a lush, flourishing tree now.<br />

<span style="font-weight: bold;">Catching Success</span></h4>
With the emergence of version 2.1 namely Eclairs, Android had 
improved drastically and was almost equalling the iPhone’s levels. It 
was then in the first quarter of 2010 that the OS finally started to 
appear on the charts to takeon iPhone benchmarks.<br />
Early 2010 saw the first Google phone, the Nexus One which ran on 
Android 2.3 Eclair. The HTC equivalent, HTC Desire also fared fairly 
well. But it was not until June 2010, when Samsung pulled the covers off
 the Galaxy S smartphone and then there was no stopping for Android.<br />
Among achievements was being declared the 2nd best gadget of 2010 by 
none other than the Time (which had given the #1 honours to the iPhone 
in the past), which had also called 2010 the year of the Android. The 
iPhone 4 could only manage the 6th position then.<br />
By late 2010, the Android OS had taken the top ranks in global market
 share from Symbian, other than being updated to Froyo and Gingerbread.<br />
Gingerbread version marked a huge moment in Android. Bringing notable
 improvements in the usability, it took over the entire market. One 
drawback was that, since it was used by so many companies on virtually 
uncountable number of phones from all categories, it still stubbornly 
accounts for 30% of all Androids.<br />
The next major step was taken in the version Ice Cream Sandwich when 
onscreen keys were added for the first time. It also marked the first 
major visual change since Eclair. Later on, Jelly Bean was announced. 
Jelly Bean is the current Gingerbread, popularizing the OS to unmatched 
levels.<br />
After Gingerbread, the OS never looked backwards. While Apple’s 
devices remain almost unmatched in terms of individual sales against 
competing devices, Android phones and tablets have always sold better 
when under the common OS flag, thanks to more than 11,000 different 
devices.<br />
And it’s not limited to the smartphones and tablet industries only. 
From computers to televisions and game consoles to wrist watches, 
Android is conquering markets in a way no competitor has never done 
before.<br />

Aimed at helping the youth realize the true potential of mobile 
communication technology in solving social challenges, Telenor Pakistan 
announced Telenor Group’s new global initiative, the Telenor Youth 
Summit today.<br />
The global Telenor Youth Summit will be held from December 09 to 11 
in Oslo, Norway in collaboration with the Nobel Peace Centre.<br />
All business units of Telenor Group across the world, including 
Telenor Pakistan, will be sending two delegates between the ages of 18 
to 25 from their respective countries at the global summit to share 
their input and ideas towards bringing positive social change through 
the use of mobile communication and internet.<br />
The two participants from Pakistan will be selected through an 
activity which invites students and young people falling within the 
stipulated age bracket to submit their ideas around the theme of using 
internet and mobile communications for education, empowerment, health 
and wellbeing of people in the world.<br />
The activity urges young people to ‘use your digital voice – be 
heard!’ by becoming possible change agents to contribute towards their 
communities. All interested candidates can participate by sharing their 
ideas on djuice website (<a href="http://djuice.com.pk/Campaigns/telenor-youth-summit/" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">http://djuice.com.pk/Campaigns/telenor-youth-summit/</a>) where their submissions would be made available for public voting after moderation.<br />
Top 10 voted ideas would be shortlisted and presented by the 
candidates to a jury comprising renowned industry experts who will 
select the two winners from Pakistan.<br />

Communications and Responsibility, Telenor Pakistan said, “We are happy 
to announce yet another step in the direction today. The competition 
under the youth summit provides a platform for youth to demonstrate

The event will coincide with the Noble Peace Prize event in December.

The Nokia Lumia 925 introduces a metal design and showcases the

Glow Partners with Pakwheels for Karachi Auto Show 2013

Glow by Warid, Pakistan’s premier youth brand, partnered with 
Pakwheels.com in orchestrating the 2013 Karachi Auto Show, which was 
recently held at Port Grand in Karachi.

The event featured more than 250 cars and was attended by thousands of automobile enthusiasts from the city.

The Auto Show, which featured vintage, classic, sports, exotic, 
luxury, SUV, bikes, trikes and project and modified vehicles, aimed to 
promote the Pakistani car industry. The show gave young fans an

Few hours after the launch of the most appealed Apple iPhone, the iPhone 5S;
 Geeks and Technology Enthusiasts from all around the world, had gone 
crazy exploring the core, as well as the exterior of the most sold 
mobile phone ever.<br />
Just if you don’t know, Apple sold 9 million iPhones during its first
 weekend, topping the 5 million record that was set by Apple itself last
 year.<br />
<a href="http://www.chipworks.com/" target="_blank">Chipworks</a> – A 
Company dedicated to exploring the inside of the world’s largest 
technology organization, and taking their products apart – had partnered
 with <a href="http://www.ifixit.com/" target="_blank">iFixit,</a> and has wasted no time in <a href="http://www.chipworks.com/en/technical-competitive-analysis/resources/blog/inside-the-iphone-5s/" target="_blank">reverse-engineering the 5S</a>.<br />
Just like every other Apple’s product, the iPhone 5S is a wonder of 
engineering, assembling the most advanced hardware technology of various
 vendors, including the new A7 system on a chip, M7 coprocessor and the 
most sought-after Touch ID fingerprint authentication hardware into one 
of the lightest and thinnest smartphones in the market.<br />
Among the highlights of <a href="http://www.ifixit.com/Teardown/iPhone+5s+Teardown/17383/1" target="_blank">iFixit’s teardown</a>
 along with Chipworks of the iPhone 5S is a new Sony sensor for the 5S 
camera, the technology behind the new fingerprint scanner, the 
engineering ability to squeeze in a larger battery — and curiously 
there’s no M7 coprocessor to be found in fact it’s really just a tiny, 
standard Cortex-M3 core.<br />
While the reverse-engineering is ongoing, Chipworks has already 
discovered that the A7 chip is indeed manufactured by Samsung, and not 
by Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC). By tearing down 
the 5S, Chipworks was able to determine that the chip was made using 
Samsung’s 28nm high-k metal gate technology. It had been rumoured that 
the SoC would be produced by TSMC instead of Samsung, but it would seem 
that isn’t the case.<br />
As far as the Camera Sensor is concerned, Apple has progressed with a
 “new variant” of the Sony sensor, according to iFixit teardwon.<br />
“The markings are consistent with the markings on the camera modules 
housing the Sony IMX145 we saw in the iPhone 4s and on the iPhone 5. The
 marks on the side of the module are different, but our industry 
insiders tell us this is Sony’s again. As Apple has stated the pixel 
pitch on this camera is 1.5 µ, this sensor should not be the IMX145, but
 a newer variant.”<br />

One thing that really incites me about 5S is that Apple does such an 
incredible job in maximizing their battery size in their tiny phone, 
they meticulously design the internal components to be as compact as 
possible.<br />

Federal government is finally all prepared to appoint three members 
of Pakistan Telecommunication Authority, sources familiar with the 
matter confirmed RexHacker.<br />
For the purpose candidates were interviewed for the slots of Member Finance, Member Technical and Member Compliance as per job advertisement published on June 14th, 2013.<br />
If sources are to be believed then selection commission has finalized
 three names to be sent to cabinet division for approvals before the 
final appointment are to be made by Prime Minister next Monday after his
 return from USA visit.<br />
Unconfirmed reports suggest that commission has recommended Mr. 
Kamran Ali as Member Compliance, Mr. Tariq Sultan as Member Finance 
while Mr. Mushtaq Bhatti is to be made the Member Technical.<br />
Mr. Kamran, currently the Member Legal at Ministry of Information 
Technology has previously served at PTA as DG law. Mr. Tariq Sultan is 
currently the DG Finance at PTA.<br />
One members out of three members – supposedly the member technical – is to be made the Chairman after the proper appointments.<br />
It merits mentioning here that Lahore High Court had dismissed the June 14th job ad
 for members’ PTA, however, shortlisted candidates were interviewed last
 week at PTA headquarters after Supreme Court directed the federal 
government to appoint PTA Members till Sep 16th, 2013 – despite LHC’s dismissal – based on the same job ad.<br />
Appointment of PTA members has been challenged in the courts several times. Government had to advertise the job thrice before Supreme Court finally ordered the government to speed up the process for appointment of members.<br />
Analysts fear that current appointments may also face litigation as 
government increased the number of members from two to three through a 
SRO and not through a proper amendment in Telecom Act.<br />
Others hope a smooth transition and appointments so that the industry is again put on the roll after a break of over eight months.<br />

If you thought that the $7.7 billion which Microsoft paid to buy Nokia,
 a company with such prestige, culture and legacy a small amount of 
money, listen to this: BlackBerry has been bought by a Canadian company 
Fairfax Financial Holding for $4.7 billion. (Still, the Canadian company
 did end up in Canadian hands.)<br />
Fairfax Financial had already held around 10% of BlackBerry’s shares 
previously. Stockholders will be receiving $9 per share as a part of 
this deal which will take the company private.<br />
The deal – which is final – is still pending some regulatory 
requirements as the parties involved will be subjected to six weeks of 
due diligence, until the 4th of November.<br />
The news might have been a bit of a surprise to hear sometime ago but not now as only yesterday we reported that Blackberry was eyeing a $1 billion loss this quarter and was cutting its workforce by 40 percent.<br />
It’s incredibly ironical as only about half a decade ago, BlackBerry 
was worth a staggering $100 billion. After the iPhone, its sales 
actually increased a bit but dived headfirst towards the ground later, a
 reaction to which is the news you’re reading right now.<br />
Prem Watsa, the Chairman and CEO of Fairfax Financial had something 
to say however: “We believe this transaction will open an exciting new 
private chapter for BlackBerry, its customers, carriers and employees,” 
he said.<br />

the execution of a long-term strategy in a private company with a focus

The Microsoft Surface 2 Pro comes with the same 10.6 inch 1080p 
display with 1920 x 1080 resolution with, but with 46% more colour

RAM.<br />
All in all, the new Surface 2 Pro offers 20% performance boost, 50% 
graphics boost and thanks to Haswell, 75% battery life increase. It is 
also more cooler and quieter than before.<br />
There are two HD cameras on the front and on the back as usual. For 
connectivity, it has 3 USB 2.0 ports, 1 USB 3.0 port, Bluetooth 4.0, 
mini DisplayPort, Wi-Fi, microSD card slot and 3.5mm headphone jack.<br />
The design is the same VaporMg as before and now, it also features a 
two-step kickstand on the back. The Surface 2 Pro runs on Windows 8.1 
out-of-the-box.<br />
It will available in 64, 128, 256, 512 GB storage options for $899, 
$999, $1299 and $1799 respectively. According to Microsoft, the Surface 2
 Pro is now faster than 95% of the laptops in the world.<br />

Microsoft are keen not to repeat that again in 2013. Called the 
most-productive tablet ever, it now comes with a 10.6 inch 1080p 
ClearType Display and Gorilla Glass protection.<br />
On the inside, it comes with a 1.7Ghz quad-core Nvidia Tegra 4 
processor, a 72-core GeForce GPU and 2 GB of RAM. This makes the Surface
 2 four times faster than before. Around the back is a 5 megapixel 
camera (5 times better than before) with Full HD 1080p video, followed 
by a 3.5 megapixel camera on the front.<br />
For connectivity, it comes with Bluetooth 4.0, USB 3.0, microSD card 
slot, HDMI and 3.5mm headphone jack. Battery life is quoted at being 10 
hours.<br />
Of the inside, it runs on Windows RT 8.1 and comes with Microsoft 
Office 2013 RT edition. It will come in either 32 or 64 GB storage 
options which will cost $449 and $549 respectively.<br />

Both the Surface 2 and Surface Pro 2 will hit the markets in the 
coming few weeks and will come 200 GB worth free SkyDrive storage for 2 
years, as well as free Skype calls for 1 year.<br />

Along with 2 new tablets, Microsoft also announced several new 
keyboard covers for the Surface tablets. The tablets are now thinner and
 lighter than before.<br />
The Touch Cover 2 features 1092 sensor now, compared to only 82 
previously. The Type Cover remains mostly as before. A new cover called 
the Power Cover was also introduced which is actually a Type Cover but 
has a battery inside. All of them are backlit unlike before, and have a 
proximity sensor on the inside to variate the lightning levels on the 
keyboard.<br />
Microsoft also announced the new Surface Remix project which is just 
like a normal cover, except that it trades the keys of a keyboard for 
music controls. It is mainly targeted towards DJs. Microsoft has even
