The Apple v. Samsung trials have concluded in the favour of the 
former, with the latter being asked to pay $290 million to the conqueror
 of the ruling.<br />

That is not the first time that Samsung is asked to pay that amount of money, after in August of 2012 it was asked to give $1.049 billion for patent infringements, a sum later trimmed to around $600 million.<br />

However, the amount of money Apple has got is still lesser than the 
amount it had initially demanded this time, $380 million. Samsung, on 
the other hand thought it owned Apple $52 million.<br />

Both the parties do agree though that Samsung sold 10.7 million 
devices infringing Apple’s patents, bringing in $3.5 billion in revenue.<br />

Apple had earlier estimated that it had lost profits of $114 million 
due to Samsung’s infringing products, and would’ve also sold 360,000 
more products were it not for its rival. Its rival, however, thought 
that Apple shouldn’t be getting money due to lost profits while the $52 
million figure was almost solely based on profits earned on Samsung’s 
products.<br />

While the 9-digit figure of $290,456,793 may still not be that much 
of money for companies who play in billions of dollars (and hearts), 
Samsung must’ve left the court in San Jose, California red-faced, with 
its nemesis feeling triumphant.<br />

“For Apple, this case has always been about more than patents and money,” Apple said after the ruling.<br />

COMSATS Internet Services (CIS) pioneered live online auction for 
Capital Development Authority (CDA) when a live online auction was 
conducted in Islamabad, Lahore, and Karachi simultaneously using video 
conferencing between all three cities. <br />

The auction was monitored and supervised by different Members of CDA who were part of the auction committee.
<br />
This was the first live auction for CDA where bidders 
participated not only from Islamabad but from other cities also. In 
Lahore, bidders were located at Lahore Chamber of Commerce & 
Industry (LCCI) and in Karachi, bidders were located at Federation of 
Pakistan Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FPCCI), while Convention 
Centre remained the hub for the bid in Islamabad.

The three auction sites were connected using high resolution 
video conferencing equipment and fiber and wireless connectivity at all 
sites. Primary link for each site was on fiber with backup on wireless.
<br />
Just to mention, the auction fetched Rs. 7.43 billion for CDA 
over three days, a lot more than what a single station could have 
generated.

In the closing ceremony, Chairman CDA, Mr. Nadeem Hassan Asif, 
called the CIS team on stage and appreciated their efforts for 
conducting a live auction for three successive days without downtime or

Speaking on the occasion, Chief Executive Officer CIS, Mr. Asim 
Shahryar Husain, said that “CIS displayed its professionalism throughout
 the live auction for three days by testing connectivity between all 
three sites five days before the actual auction and monitoring power and
 connectivity throughout the live video conference for three days. 
Multi-point video conferencing is the future for meetings with remote 
sites to save on travel, time, and costs.” CDA plans on conducting more 
live auctions in 2014.</div>

Mobilink Foundation has handed over a Mobile Library to the students 
of Pehli Kiran School System (PKSS) of Jahangir Akhtar Qureshi (JAQ) 
trust as a means to encouraging extracurricular education among the 
school children.<br />

The Mobile Library will carry books across 8 campuses in Islamabad and the adjourning areas for more than 1400 students to read.<br />

The key to the Mobile Library was handed over in a ceremony held at 
the Mobilink head office in Islamabad. The ceremony was attended by 
Mobilink Senior Management, Mobilink Torchbearers, JAQ Trust board of 
Trustees and school children of PKSS.<br />

Omar Manzur, Head of Corporate Communication Mobilink speaking at the
 ceremony said, ‘Our partnership with JAQ trust is part of Mobilink

the under-privileged children of Pakistan. We hope that the Mobilink 
Mobile Library will go a long way in developing children’s interest in 
book reading and understanding the benefits of education.’<br />

The Mobile Library has been set up in a hatch-back vehicle to carry 
story books, activity books, fairy tales and general knowledge books for
 children.<br />

The Mobile Library will travel between the PKSS Islamabad campuses as
 a means to providing them books during their ‘reading periods’ each 
week.<br />

Pakistan Tops 2.9 Million Broadband Subscribers, EvDO Outruns DSL Subscriptions

Pakistan Telecommunication Authority has said that total broadband 
base in Pakistan crossed 2.9 million subscriptions at the end of August 
2013.<br />

A total of 101,707 new broadband connections were issued during the month of August, with EvDO technology – Thanks to PTCL’s offering of 50 Discount on EVO — grabbing the 93 percent of new acquisitions or 93,506 sales in a month.<br />

With such massive sales in one month, for the first time in the 
history of the country, broadband subscribers using EvDO technology have
 crossed the DSL subscriptions to become the largest used technology for
 broadband services in the country.<br />

EvDO now has over 41 percent of market-share in terms of broadband 
subscribers, with DSL technology following at 38 percent market-share. 
This trend hints that 3G wireless broadband, when launched, will be 
greatly welcomed in Pakistan.<br />

WiMAX technology, worst hit due to rise in EvDO customers, saw a decline of 2,623 customers during August.<br />

Dell Announces the New XPS 11 and XPS 13

The new duo of XPS 11 and 13 are laptops which are inspired by the 
new trends and feature attractive designs, making them a direct 
competitor to the 11 inch and 13 inch MacBook Air models respectively.<br />

The more portable offering of the two, XPS 11, features a 360 degree 
hinge which allows to you use it in laptop, tent, stand or tablet modes.
 The keyboard, however, is touch-sensitive rather than having mechanical
 keys so that might turn some people off.<br />

But the 11.6″ display of the XPS 11 may prove to be its biggest 
selling feature. It comes with a 2560 x 1440 pixel resolution by 
default. The touch-enabled display is protected by Corning Gorilla 
Glass.<br />

Innards of the system include a 1.5Ghz dual-core Intel Core i3 
Haswell processor, with 4 GB worth memory, integrated graphics and 80 GB
 SSD storage. Connectivity options include Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Bluetooth
