Acquiring Instagram less than a year ago for $1 billion has 
apparently not fulfilled Facebook’s hunger for highly-prized social 
networks, as the company announces that it will be buying the 
widely-acclaimed instant-messaging app Whatsapp for a mind-blowing $16 
billion. (That’s $9 billion more for what Microsoft paid for Nokia, just
 in case you were wondering for a company that has only 50 employees).<br />

Whatsapp will continue to operate independently after the deal is closed, and won’t be merged with Facebook’s companion apps.<br />

Facebook will be co-operating with Whatsapp to make it grow further in the future.<br />

Given Facebook’s lust for ads, it is quite relieving to hear that the
 app won’t be interrupted with any of them whatsoever, as confirmed by 
Whatsapp CEO Jan Koum. We are not so sure whether that will the case, 
for say, five years later.<br />

Whatsapp is already a giant in its own right, with 450 million users 
monthly active users, of which 70% are daily active users too. And with 1
 million people signing up everyday, it is growing blazingly fast. The 
news also comes less than a week after <a href="http://rexhacker.blogspot.com/2014/02/viber-sold-out-for-900-million-to-japan.html" target="_blank">Viber got acquired for less than a billion dollars</a>.<br />

Instead, money will be made based on how many people use the app. It currently charges an annual subscription fee $1 per user.<br />

Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL) has opened its 
doors to the talented youth of Pakistan through its ‘One-Year Paid 
Internship Program 2014’.<br />

The program enables fresh graduates to develop essential skills and 
gain the necessary experience required to compete in today’s fast-paced 
and challenging job market.<br />

Commenting on this initiative President and CEO PTCL Walid Irshaid 
said, “At PTCL, we believe in contributing towards the socio-economic 
progress of the country through various community development 
initiatives and we would continue exploring innovative ways like this to
 serve the society.”<br />

He further added, “I am confident that such programs will play an 
important role in capacity building and nourishment of the country’s

A batch comprising of 500 interns has been selected after going 
through the assessment process. The successful interns who have joined 
the program will be paid a stipend amounting to Rs.15,000 per month.<br />

PTCL began this One-year Paid Internship program in 2012 with 
departments including engineering, finance, marketing, customer care, 
IT, Human Resource, and others. 50 top performers of the first batch 
were offered an opportunity to work as full-time employees at PTCL, 
while 100 interns were hired by various organizations upon completion of
 the one year term. The rigorous and challenging program also led to 283
 more interns getting jobs during the continuity of the program.<br />

“This program is designed to develop and enhance the capacity of our 
youth and we plan to explore such innovative approaches which serve the 
community in future as well”, commented Syed Mazhar Hussain, Chief Human
 Resource Officer at PTCL.</div>

Nokia Pakistan today officially announced its top of the line Lumia 1520 and Lumia 1320 phablets in Pakistan.<br />

Both the devices were already retailing in the market but it was only
 today that Nokia launched them along with the announcement of a reality
 show on the theme of traveling named <i>Kuch Kar Dikha</i>, in which 
Nokia took viewers on an exhilarating journey to witness the scenic 
beauty of Pakistan and put the natural splendor at the forefront.<br />

The Nokia Lumia 1520 offers the latest imaging innovation from Nokia –
 a 20-megapixel PureView camera with optical image stabilization (OIS) 
enabling sharp images even in the dark as well as oversampling and 
zooming technology similar to the Nokia Lumia 1020.<br />

 six-inch display, 5-megapixel camera and a 1.7 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon™

PTCL has established a management portal for its EVO, Wingle, Nitro 
and 3G Tab users to keep a watch on the services they are using.<br />

Through this portal customers will be able to manage their accounts, 
view their usage details and perform various other functions relating to
 PTCL wireless broadband services they are using.<br />

Almost all packages from EVO, Wingle and Nitro are capped now with a 
monthly limit on downloads, this management portal is going to help 
customers to track their usage patterns and to plan their broadband 
usages.<br />

Customers can also recharge their (prepaid) accounts through the management portal.<br />
