Samsung has announced a new phone, trying to give quite a rich feature-package for a comparatively low price, the Galaxy Neo.<br />

The Galaxy Neo comes with a 5″ display, a quad-core processor and a 5 megapixel HD camera.<br />

The display comes with a subpar resolution of 480 x 800 pixel 
resolution, which we think is a bit disappointing. The design is the 
same plastic which the company uses for the low-end phones.<br />

Underneath, you will find a 1.2Ghz Cortex A7 quad-core processor, 
along with 1 GB RAM and 8 GB expandable internal storage. Around the 
back is the 5 megapixel camera with 720p HD video, accompanied by a VGA 
shooter on the front.<br />

The phone is powered by a 2,100 mAh battery, which is also removable.
 The version of OS is Android 4.2 Jelly Bean, obviously customized by 
Samsung.<br />

The new affordable smartphones are aimed at mid-range audience with 
their innovative Fastlane home screen, attractive new design and a 
deeper integration with social networks.<br />

Commenting on the new Nokia Asha range, Arif Shafique, country 
general manager, Nokia Pakistan said: “With the expansion of the Nokia 
Asha family, we bring three exciting smartphones for our consumers to 
suit their budget needs. The new Asha series has a stunning new design, a
 plethora of social networking apps and enhanced imaging quality. This 
way, millions of consumers across different price points will get access

With the launch of the latest range of Asha smartphones, Nokia 
introduces the unique ‘dual shot’ design which combines an inner layer

of the crowd. The high-end design brought to this price point is a clear

The Asha 500 offers a 2.8-inch screen, a 2-megapixel camera and 2G

According to a new report by IDC, the number of smartphone shipments 
in 2013 reached one billion for the first time ever. Scales were tipped 
just above the golden figure, at 1.004 billion units. The total mobile 
phone sales also reached 1.82 billion.<br />

The big names were responsible for the achievement. Samsung raked up 
most sales, selling a record 313.9 million smartphones, capturing 31.3% 
market share and marking a 42.9% year-on-year increase.<br />

Apple remained second after it sold 153.4 million smartphones.<br />

The Chinese giant, Huawei was third, managing to capture 4.9% of the 
market with 48.8 million phones sold. It along with LG and Lenovo was in
 for a tough battle, with the latter two selling 47.7 and 45.5 million 
smartphones respectively. Still, out of the three, Lenovo was a big 
winner with 91.7% increase in sales over last year.<br />

The “Others” portion, which includes names as HTC and Nokia 
constituted for 39.3% of the smartphones sold worldwide, which is bigger
 than any single company right now.<br />

The research firm also concluded that the biggest trends last year 
were the increase of display sizes and low cost phones. This was also 
the first year where the number of smartphones shipped was larger than 
that of feature-phones.<br />

DTH or Direct-to-home TV system is usually perceived as an expensive 
solution and majority hold the view that cable TV is not going to get 
replaced by DTH due to its cost-effectiveness.<br />

Even PEMRA believes that DTH might not entirely replace cable TV, even in the long run.<br />

PEMRA’s spokesperson, while commenting on the situation, said “The 
fact that DTH will come to Pakistan does not mean cable system will be 
demolished from grass root levels. Both services will be employed 
simultaneously by users”.<br />

DTH, on the other hands, obviously offers the advantage of superior 
quality and hence quality conscious people would immediacy opt for DTH.<br />

Not to mention, audio and visual quality provided by DTH is 
unbelievably commendable. Each colour, graphic and sound is enhanced. 
While we aren’t sure about the adaption rate as of now, but surely DTH 
technology awareness will spread from classes to the masses during the 
time to come.<br />

Talking about adaption is probably too early right now as many of us 
are even not sure about when DTH is actually going to surface in 
Pakistan.<br />

If you can recall, PEMRA had very proudly announced the issuance of 
two licenses for DTH to Cross Currents (Pvt) Limited and ARY 
communication back in December 2003.<br />

Both the groups, however, shelved the projects as everything was put to hold.<br />

But now, news from various authentic sources have confirmed that only
 numbered weeks are left to finally welcome the most advanced and 
breakthrough TV broadcast technology in Pakistan.<br />

The time left to experience Pakistani DTS is inversely proportional 
to the number of consumers of illegal Indian Dish TV in Pakistan.<br />

Just in case if you don’t know, people across Pakistan have purchased
 illegal STBs (Set-Top-Box ). Each month they are paying at least Rs. 
1,000 and the one time installation is costing them Rs. 7,000-8,000.<br />

These Indian DTH services offer a total of 99 channels, out of which 
almost 50 are foreign news channels, while 35 others are regional Indian
 channels. Only 15 channels are what Pakistanis get against such hefty 
investments.<br />

This whole illegal Indian Dish TV market translates into $150 Million
 for Indian DTH service providers without any tax deduction.<br />

Its up to PEMRA now that they make the DTH a reality in Pakistani 
market with local operators to earn all this money with proper taxing to
 aid our national exchequer.<br />

So if you are an avid TV viewer who won’t compromise on quality then 
your wait isn’t going to be long enough. Instead of investing into 
illegal Indian Dish TV solutions, just wait a little, as Pakistan DTH 
operators are going to serve you very soon.</div>
