Voice has announced a new addition to its Android line-up with the 
new Xtreme V75. The handset costs lies in the mid-budget category, and 
comes with a 5 inch display, quad-core processor and 8 megapixel 
rear-shooter.<br />

The screen is of qHD resolution which is a bit disappointing for a 
display this large. It does come with scratch-resistant coating though. 
The phone also comes with dual-sim connectivity onboard.<br />

Under the hood, you’ll find a 1.2Ghz quad-core processor, along with 1

Telenor Pakistan has become the largest Automated Meter Reading (AMR)
 solutions provider in the country with an on-going deployment of 17,000
 smart meters in five cities of Pakistan including Islamabad, Hyderabad,
 Multan, Lahore and Peshawar.<br />

Automatic meter reading, or AMR, is the technology of automatically 
collecting consumption, diagnostic, and status data from water meter or 
energy metering devices (gas, electric) and transferring that data to a 
central database for billing, troubleshooting, and analysing.<br />
Automated Smart Meters have been deployed by Telenor in five 
distribution companies in collaboration with International Resources 
Group, an American enterprise which is a wholly-owned subsidiary of 
Engility Corporation.<br />

The Automated Smart Meter deployment will help reduce distribution 
losses, electricity theft and increasing labor productivity by 
automating monitoring, meter reading and load management.<br />

Samsung has announced a new Android handset in its Galaxy line-up, the Xpress 2. The phone succeeds its forgotten brother, the original Xpress, and comes with a 4.5″ display, dual-core processor and a 5 megapixel camera.<br />

The display comes with a qHD resolution of 540 x 960 pixels which 
should be fine for a display of this size. The OS which runs on it is 
Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean with TouchWiz customizations.<br />

Underneath, you get a 1.7Ghz dual-core processor. That’s accompanied 
by 1.5 GB worth RAM and 8 GB internal storage, which is expandable.<br />

At the back is a 5 megapixel camera with LED Flash, along with a VGA 
shooter upfront. Connectivity options include NFC, 4G LTE, Bluetooth 
4.0, microUSB 2.0 and Wi-Fi.<br />

Mobilink, Telenor and Ufone, as per the announcements published on 
their websites, will charge 10 paisas plus tax extra for each and every 
call made by their prepaid customers from next week.<br />

While we had anticipated a notable increase in tariffs, it is highly unusual that all three operators are introducing call setup charges during the same week.<br />

Dear Mobilink Customers: Effective 28th December, a call 
setup fee of 10 paisa + tax will be charged on all calls including 
discounted calls. The existing call setup fee of 15 paisa + tax on all 
local call base rates will be reduced to 10 paisa + tax as well.</blockquote>
After this new charging mechanism, each and every call on any package
 – including the voice bundles – will be charged extra with 10 paisas 
plus tax as call setup charges.<br />

For example, if you have subscribed to voice bundle from Telenor that
 allows 300 minutes with validation of three days then each call made 
under this offer will be charged at 10 paisas plus tax per call.<br />

Please note that call setup charges will be charged on per call basis (instead of per minute basis).<br />

Zong and Warid are likely to impose similar charges as well.<br />

All operators imposing same amount of call setup charges on each call
 hints that telecom operators are cartelizing to mint money from overly 
burdened telecom subscribers.  Pakistan Telecommunication Authority, as 
always, is likely to remain silent.</div>

Competition Commission of Pakistan has finally issued show-cause notices to all five cellular operators against additional service charges they had imposed back in 2011.<br />
It maybe recalled that all five operators had imposed service charges
 on all reloads in July 2011, and ranged from 1.0 to 1.5 percent on 
recharge of balance for prepaid connections under various titles such as
 operational charge, maintenance fee, administrative fee etc.<br />
Later on, the percentage of these additional charges was revised and 
increased by the operators in 2012, and again in 2013 ranging from 3% to
 5%.<br />
CCP found that these additional charges do not relate to any service offered to the consumers.<br />
CCP, in this regards, asked telecom operators for the information. 
Based on the replies from operators, CCP presented all its findings and 
replies from operators in a fact finding report.<br />

CCP maintained that all these additional charges may constitute 
hidden costs of acquiring cellular telecommunication telephony and data 
services, giving the impression that the prices of such services are 
lower than they actually are in reality, thereby constituting a 
deceptive marketing practice in violation of Section 10 of the 
Competition Act, 2010.<br />

Hence all five operators were ultimately issued a show-cause notice yesterday to explain their position on additional charges.<br />
Analysts believe that CCP should have considered the cartelization of
 telecom operators as they collectively imposed almost equal service 
charges – against no service – during 2011. These charges were again 
revised and increased in 2012 and 2013 in a set pattern, hinting that 
all operators have joined hands in imposing extra charges under 
different names.<br />
Analysts said that CCP will have to set its direction right to get the telecom customers some relief.<br />
Industry experts said that CCP has simply forgotten that all telecom 
companies are deducting 5 percent service charges on all reloads since 
2008. These 5 percent service charges were first imposed by Telenor<span style="line-height: 1.5em;"> in September 2008, while </span>other operators simply followed<span style="line-height: 1.5em;"> and imposed similar charges later on.</span><br />
CCP probably forgot that cellular companies are charging 8-10 percent
 – and not 3 to 5 percent – of additional charges without offering any 
services.<br />
Just to add, following is the breakdown of charges/taxes a telecom customer pay on telecom services:<br />

<li>WHT: 15 percent</li>
<li>GST: 19.5 percent</li>
<li>Additional Charges (imposed in 2008): 5 percent</li>
<li>Additional fee (imposed in 2011, 2012,2012): 3-5 percent</li>
</ul>
Total charges: 15+19.5+5+3-5 = 42.5-44.5 percent.<br />
That is, almost half of the airtime is consumed for paying additional charges and taxes.<br />
Moreover, CCP should also study the similar and equivalent charges 
that were imposed on helpline calls. Its a long way to go CCP!</div>

Ufone has become the first Pakistani brand to cross 2 million fans on
 Facebook. It is a milestone for the company and the agency as Ufone 
becomes the first local brand to acquire 2 million fans on Facebook.<br />

The digital presence of Ufone is powered by Strategic Alliancez (SA) – an interactive digital media agency based out of Lahore.<br />
