Google Agrees to Launch Localized Version of YouTube in Pakistan

Google/YouTube has conditionally agreed to launch localized version 
of YouTube in Pakistan that will work in-line with local authorities to 
block blasphemous content with-in Pakistani borders, <a href="http://www.dawn.com/news/1061799/google-may-localise-youtube-for-pakistani-users" target="_blank">reported Dawn.com</a>.<br />

Citing the Minister for IT and Telecom, Ms. Anusha Rehman, the paper 
said that this new arrangement will give birth to YouTube.com.pk or 
YouTube.PK, a local version of YouTube in Pakistan.<br />

Ms. Rehman was cited as saying that government of Pakistan has 
succeeded in convincing the Google management about religious 
sensitivities of Pakistanis.<br />

She was explaining the situation to a Standing Committee of Senate yesterday.<br />

Anusha Rehman further unveiled that Google wants not to be held 
responsible for any blasphemous content uploaded on its sites as that 
will be a personal action of the individual. Google, however, will work 
closely with government of Pakistan to get any such blasphemous content 
blocked in Pakistan.<br />

Google, according to the minister, has asked Government’s guarantee 
in this regard, for which a detailed draft is being prepared by Pakistan
 Telecommunication Authority.<br />

Anusha said that this draft ordinance – after finalization — will be processed by the ministry for enactment as law.<br />

After this localized version of YouTube, Ms. Rehman further 
explained, Pakistan won’t require any costly filtration mechanisms. 
Instead Google will easily be able to block blasphemous content on the 
request of the Pakistan government.<br />

“Saudi Arabia and Malaysia have also reached a similar arrangement with Google,” Anusha Rehman said.<br />

Localising YouTube would also mean that Google will not be violating 
its own company law of hindering freedom of expression, the state 
minister explained.<br />

Responding to a question from the members, the minister said she could not give an exact date for the re-opening of YouTube.<br />

It maybe recalled that YouTube is banned in Pakistan since September 17th, 2012 for not blocking blasphemous content in Pakistan.</div>

Zong has launched its state-of-the-art Contact Centre in Chak Shehzad
 Islamabad, which was inaugurated today by Ms. Anusha Rehman, Minister 
for Information Technology and Telecom.<br />

Company claims this newly launched contact centre as being the largest cloud based contact centre in the country.<br />

Chariman PTA, Dr. Ismail Shah, Secretary IT, Akhlaq Tarar and other dignitaries were also present at the inauguration ceremony.<br />

With the launch of this new Contact Centre, Zong has taken another

When <a href="http://rexhacker.blogspot.com/2013/09/apple-reveals-iphone-5s.html" target="_blank">Apple announced in September</a>
 that its latest flagship will be coming with a first-in-class 64-bit 
processor, we were delighted but knew that the technology won’t reach 
everyone’s pocket just yet. But now the future seems much brighter with 
the announcement of the SnapDragon 410 processor.<br />

Rather curiously, the chip isn’t targeting the upper-end category but
 rather the starter range. They’re made with a 28nm process, same as the
 high-end SnapDragon 800. It also comes with the new Adreno 306 GPU 
which supports 1080p Full HD video playback.<br />

Camera modules of up to 13 megapixels are supported.<br />

But the biggest attraction is the rich connectivity-set. The 
SnapDragon 410 supports worldwide 4G LTE, meaning that the technology

place is a must though). There will also be dual-sim and triple-sim 
connectivity.<br />

Apart from this lies the usual stuff: NFC, Bluetooth, FM, GPS, GLONASS and Wi-Fi support.<br />

SnapDragon 410 will come on Android, Windows Phone and Firefox OS 
smartphones. Qualcomm says that devices under the $150 margin will come 
with it. It’s clear that even a budget smartphone of today is better 
than the flagships of 4 years ago.<br />

It be making an appearance in the second half of 2014 while Qualcomm samples it to companies in the first two quarters.</div>

Anusha Rehman, Minister of State for IT and Telecom, yesterday met 
with Mr. Walid Irshaid, CEO and President of PTCL, to discuss the matter
 of pending Etisalat payment towards government of Pakistan.<br />
Etisalat is holding a USD 800 million or PKR 80 billion payment to Government of Pakistan from 26 percent stakes purchase in PTCL in 2005.<br />
PTCL, in the past, has always maintained that matter of pending 
payments is between Etisalat and Privatization Commission and that 
company has nothing much to do about this.<br />

However, for the first time, Mr. Walid Irshaid is reported in media 
to have discussed the matter of outstanding Etisalat payments.<br />
It maybe recalled that Etisalat – <a href="http://rexhacker.blogspot.com/2013/10/ptcl-submits-non-binding-offer-to.html" target="_blank">through PTCL</a> — is aggressively perusing to get cent percent hold of Warid Telecom in Pakistan. However, <a href="http://rexhacker.blogspot.com/2013/11/pakistan-may-block-etisalat-warid-deal.html" target="_blank">Pakistan is looking to block the deal</a> if Etisalat decides to not to clear the pending payment.<br />
Sources tell RexHacker that Etisalat-Warid deal is almost through.
 Both the sides are now evaluating the regulatory approvals and <a href="http://rexhacker.blogspot.com/2013/12/etisalat-warid-deal-raises-socio.html" target="_blank">other post-announcement factors</a> that may impact the deal after it will be announced officially.<br />
RexHacker is expecting the announcement for Etisalat-Warid deal through a foreign media-outlet during next few days.</div>

Easypaisa has officially launched the ATM cards for its mobile account holders, reported <a href="http://www.nation.com.pk/business/10-Dec-2013/easypaisa-announces-commercial-launch-of-atm-cards" target="_blank">The Nation</a>.<br />

Paper said that after the soft launch of Easypaisa ATM cards earlier 
this year, Easypaisa has now commercially launched the cards for its mobile account holders.<br />

Easypaisa Mobile Account holders can get their ATM cards from Telenor Service Centres or from Tameer Bank branches.<br />

Card Issuance charges are set at Rs. 200 per ATM card, while transaction charges are Rs. 25 per transaction.<br />

With ATM cards, Easypaisa mobile account holders will no longer be 
required to visit Easypaisa outlets, instead they will be able to 
withdraw the cash through any 1-link ATM machines across Pakistan.<br />

Omar Moeen Malik, Head of Strategy for Easypaisa, Telenor Pakistan 
was quoted as saying that Pakistan is now one of the very few countries 
in the world, where any person with a CNIC can open a free bank account 
on his Mobile Phone in under two minutes, pick up an ATM card and link 
it to his account easily.<br />

Mobile financial service providers are seeing strong growth in their 
person-to-person transactions, which do not require permanent mobile 
accounts.<br />

Number of mobile account holders in the country, on the other hands, 
is not very impressive. However, services such as ATM cards may give 
required incentive to masses to ultimately have mobile accounts. More 
services such as netbanking and mobile apps to manage mobile account can
 further boost the usage.<br />

It maybe recalled that UBL Omni already offers ATM cards to its 
customers. Other mobile financial services are also planning to launch 
ATM cards and mobile apps for their customers to manage their mobile 
accounts.</div>
