Samsung has unveiled yet another dual-sim Android smartphone in the 
mid-range category, the Galaxy S Duos 2. The phone will be available for
 just about $175 in the coming weeks and still packs quite a punch 
underneath.<br />

Starting from the display, the unit you’ll find here will be a 4″ 
capacitive with 480 x 800 resolution, the norm for this range. 
Aesthetics are nothing spectacular though with the phone weighing in at 
118g and being 10.6mm thick.<br />

Underneath, it packs a 1.2Ghz dual-core processor with 768 MB RAM and
 4 GB internal memory, expandable via microSD card. Towards the back you
 find a 5 megapixel camera with 720p video recording, as well as a VGA 
camera for selfies.<br />

Of course, the defining feature is the dual-sim compatibility itself but there will be an LTE single-sim version later as well.<br />

Given Samsung’s brand recognition and the kind of package you’re 
getting at this price, not to mention the dual-sim functionality, the 
deal really doesn’t sound too bad. Of course, specs written on paper 
just aren’t enough for the final judgement but right now, we can’t see 
any potential deal-breakers here.</div>

Galaxy Star Pro (S7262), Samsung’s latest offering has hit the Pakistani markets, said a statement issued by the company.<br />

The Samsung Galaxy Star Pro offers customers a vivid large 4 inch 
display with a high quality screen, leading to premium viewing. It 
further offers the latest Android Jelly Bean Operating System, making 
multitasking faster and managing applications with easy wireless access.<br />

Galaxy Star Pro features a 4 GB internal memory with a microSD slot for additional storage.<br />

Mobilink announced today that it has deployed biometrics verification
 system at its 5 Customer Care Centers and 32 franchises in Karachi to 
meet regulator’s deadline of November 30th, 2013.<br />

Company said that its 789 verification system will continue in 
parallel with the biometric verification to ensure maximum security.<br />

Mobilink, in a briefing, said that it has completed a test run of the
 biometric system on all 37 point-of-sales machines at its Franchisees 
and Customer Care Divisions to ensure uninterrupted verification process
 and the security system.<br />

Mobilink has also completed the training of more than 150 personnel 
of the Franchisees, Sales and Customer Care staff and Customer Care 
Representatives to best serve its customers.<br />

Farrukh Umair, Head of Sales Mobilink expressed his satisfaction on 
the successful completion of the first phase of the project saying, 
‘Mobilink has always been the first to comply with all the directives 
from the regulator. We have yet again taken a lead in implementing the 
largest biometric SIM verification system and hope that it goes a long 
way in ensuring the safety and security of the people of Pakistan.’<br />

Earlier, PTA has directed all operators to implement the biometric 
verification system for sale of SIMs latest by November 30, 2013.</div>

Accountability Court (AC), Islamabad, Judge Muhammad Bashir yesterday
 awarded seven years imprisonment to former Director General (DG) 
Finance Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) Imran Ahmad Zubairi 
for embezzlement of Rs. 80.175 million.<br />

The case was first referenced by NAB back in 2010, which is now concluded with imprisonment sentence.<br />

Court also imposed a fine of Rs. 70 million on Mr. Zubairi.<br />

As per sources in PTA, Mr. Zubairi transferred payments collected 
from telecom operators – under the head of license fee and other 
regulatory payments — to his own accounts under various names, causing 
millions of rupees loss to the national exchequer.<br />

A departmental inquiry committee, comprising the then member finance 
and others, had declared Zubairi guilty. Later the PTA formally 
requested NAB to initiate corruption reference against him, and NAB 
approved corruption reference and submitted in the court.<br />

Earlier the court had issued arrest warrants of Zubairi but he then 
escaped to the US. Zubairi was arrested in March 2011 by the NAB with 
the help of Interpol and his name was then put on the Exit Control List.</div>

A recent report had unveiled how LG Smart TVs log customers’ personal
 data including the channel they watch and USB data that they connect to
 LG Smart TVs.<br />

Today, LG sent us a clarification on the issue and said company is 
immediately rolling out a firmware upgrade that will fix the problem.<br />

Below is the complete statement:<br />

At LG, we are always aiming to improve our Smart TV experience.<br />

Recently, it has been brought to our attention that there is an issue
 related to viewing information allegedly being gathered without 
consent.<br />

Our customers’ privacy is very important part of the Smart TV 
experience so we began an immediate investigation into these claims.<br />

Here’s what we found:<br />

LG does not, or has ever, engaged in targeted advertisement using information collected from LG Smart TV owners.<br />

Information such as channel, TV platform, broadcast source, etc. that
 is collected by certain LG Smart TVs is not personal but viewing 
information. This information is collected to offer recommendations to 
viewers based on what other LG Smart TV owners are watching.<br />

We have verified that even when this function is turned off by the 
viewers, it continues to transmit viewing information although the data 
is not retained by the server.<br />

<strong>A firmware update is being prepared for immediate rollout 
that will correct this problem on all affected LG Smart TVs so when this
 feature is disabled, no data will be transmitted.</strong><br />

It has also been reported that the names of media files stored on 
external drives such as USB flash devices are being collected by LG 
Smart TVs. While the file names are not stored, the transmission of such
 file names was part of a new feature being readied to search for data 
from the internet (metadata) related to the program being watched in 
order to deliver a better viewing experience.<br />

This feature, however, was never fully implemented and no personal 
data was ever collected or retained. This feature will also be removed 
from affected LG Smart TVs with the firmware update.<br />

LG regrets any concerns these reports may have caused and will 
continue to strive to meet the expectations of all our customers and the
 public. We hope this update clears up any confusion.</blockquote>

Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL) yesterday inked an 
agreement for Integrated Communication Technology (ICT) services and 
infrastructure development with DHA City Karachi (DCK).<br />

The partnership is aimed towards developing DHA City Karachi as the first Smart City of Pakistan.<br />

Walid Irshaid, President and CEO PTCL while speaking at the occasion 
said that “We are pleased to extend cooperation and partnership with 
Defence Housing Authority. This strategic partnership is geared towards 
meeting the higher bandwidth and telecommunications needs of the first 
smart city in Pakistan”.<br />

“PTCL will develop integrated physical and digital infrastructures 
for the residents of DHA City Karachi that provides optimal ICT services

Administrator DHA Brig Muhammad Abdullah congratulated PTCL for 
becoming the partner of DHA in making the first Smart City project of 
the country. He said that the event was yet another landmark towards 
developing DHA City Karachi as a planned, sustainable and futuristic 
city of international stature. He reiterated that DHA would contribute 
in every way to ensure that the vision of Smart City was transformed 
into a reality.<br />

Brig Abdullah said that with development of DHA City Karachi we would
 enter a new era of modernity where residents would enjoy their lives 
with international living standards. He said that the new ICT networks 
and technologies present a huge opportunity in terms of making DCK more 
sustainable through providing real-time information to the residents, 
stakeholders and service operators.<br />

Earlier Director DCK said that ICT infrastructure will also be used 
for management of urban requirements of Smart City like surveillance, 
disaster management and e-governance. He said that the physically built 
infrastructure was seemed as the skeleton, the communications’ 
infrastructure as the nerves & veins and virtual overlay as muscles 
and organs which would make the city to breathe and move in a vivid 
manner.<br />

A large number of PTCL and DHA officials also attended the ceremony.</div>
