Microsoft Pakistan, has announced the availability of Windows 8.1 in Pakistan.<br />

Rolled out globally just last month, Windows 8.1 is a feature-rich 
update to its popular Windows 8 operating system, enabling customers to 
create experiences that keep pace with their lives — at work, home or on
 the go.<br />

Windows 8.1 comes with the new Internet Explorer 11, which is fast, 
fluid and perfect for touch. It provides native support for 3-D 
printing. Best for multitasking and productivity, it includes the 
display and use of up to four apps side by side.<br />

With flexible windows sizing for each app on the screen, the ability 
for one app to launch another app, and improved multi-monitor support so
 users can view the desktop or apps from its redesigned Windows Store on
 any or all monitors.<br />

From its SkyDrive, users can create, edit, save and share files anywhere, anytime, on whatever device they are using.<br />

Mr. Amir Rao, Country General Manager at the Microsoft Pakistan said,

Syed Nasir Hussain, Chief Operating Officer, Advance Business Systems
 said in a statement, “Windows 8.1 is a refreshing addition to the 
Windows community with some remarkable features. It makes it easier than
 ever to work from anywhere and know that files are always accessible — 
across devices and locations”.<br />

Windows 8.1 offers a host of increased customization refinements and 
functional improvements, including a highly personal, improved and more 
customizable Start screen in variable tile sizes, more background 
designs and colors. In addition, customers can choose how to start their
 Windows experience — at the Start screen or directly in the familiar 
Windows desktop — while all their Windows devices stay in sync with 
their Microsoft account.<br />

During roundtable journalists had first hand experience of Windows 
8.1 on multiple devices like Tablets, Laptops and all in one desktops 
provided by Advance Business Systems, eSys and Unique Technologies.<br />

Importantly, consumers with a Windows 8 device in Pakistan, and more 
than 230 markets and 37 languages can download free update via the 
online Windows Store.<br />

Windows 8.1 is also available on new devices and as boxed software at retail locations across Pakistan.</div>

Warid Telecom has been ranked as number one socially devoted brand on Facebook during October 2013, said a report published by <a href="http://www.socialbakers.com/reports/regional/october-2013-social-media-report-facebook-pages-in-pakistan" target="_blank">Social Bakers</a>.<br />

With its around 635K fans and growing, Warid has retained its top slot for socially devoted brands on Facebook since July 2013.<br />

Average response rate for queries posted on Warid’s Facebook page 
remained 83 percent during October, which once touched 91 percent mark 
in July 2013.<br />

The average response rate is calculated by number of questions brands
 answered minus question that went unanswered on its Facebook wall.<br />

Moreover, response time by Warid against queries posted by customers

That’s it. Nokia-Microsoft deal lives, and that too overwhelmingly. 
Around 99.7% of Nokia’s shareholders, who owned four-fifth of Nokia’s 
shares, voted for the sell-out of Nokia to Microsoft.<br />

The <a href="http://rexhacker.blogspot.com/2013/09/breaking-microsoft-buys-nokia-devices.html" target="_blank">deal worth $7.2 billion was offered</a>
 last July and after it is sealed, current CEO Stephen Elop will be 
moving back to Microsoft, where he is already considered for the opened 
CEO slot.<br />

Understandably, a bit of resistance came from Finnish shareholders 
who weren’t as willing to see a brand which is an emblem of national 
pride go away to US.<br />

Transition is likely to get completed by early 2014.<br />

Overall, the stakeholders were happy with the hike in stock value 
they were going to get against the deal. Company’s share price has 
doubled since the plan was announced in early September.<br />

After the completion of takeover, Nokia will continue to continue to 
remain as a company outside of Microsoft and will retain rights to its 
brand name and management.<br />

However, for a period of 10 years, Nokia — as a brand name — will be 
licensed to Microsoft, which it will use for for Asha and other low-end 
phones.<br />

Microsoft will use its own (yet to be decided) brand name for Smartphones.<br />

After the deal is finalised, Microsoft will also be free to use and 
license any of Nokia’s patents. The Finnish company’s HERE and Solutions
 & Networks divisions will keep operating on their own in the 
future.<br />

So finally, with the shareholders happy and willing, Nokia is all but ready to move to Redmond.</div>

With an aim to eliminate grey traffic, Pakistan Telecommunication 
Authority (PTA) today announced that it will block all unregistered IPs 
carrying voice telephony.<br />

A statement issued by the regulator said that all IP addresses which 
are not registered with PTA – and carrying voice packets — would be 
considered as black listed IPs and shall be blocked with immediate 
effect.
<br />
IP addresses of authorized telecom users like Call Centers, Video
 Conferencing etc. are being whitelisted in the monitoring system. It is
 therefore advised to all the companies authorized to bring 
international incoming calls to Pakistan to get their IP addresses 
whitelisted by contacting PTA immediately.
<br />
White listing of IP addresses by the authorized users/companies would help them use the services without any interruption.
<br />
If IP addresses are not reported to PTA for whitelisting as per 
the prescribed procedure, they would be blocked without any further 
notice. Moreover, legal action would be initiated against the companies 
involved in use of IP addresses for termination of any sort of 
international incoming calls as per provision of laws of Pakistan.
<br />

addresses for legal voice / video services, Director (Vigilance) of PTA 
can be contacted at abatin@pta.gov.pk.<br />

It merits mentioning here that PTA recently deployed Grey Traffic 
Monitoring System which keeps a check on International Internet Protocol
 (IP) bandwidth to detect and block illegal International incoming voice
 calls.</div>
