If you’re any kind of PC tweaker, like we are, you spend way too much
 time inside the Windows Control Panel. One of the quibbles we’ve had 
with past versions of Windows was the several layers of clicks you’d 
have to negotiate to get into the depths of Control Panel—especially 
with the Category as opposed to Classic view of the panel that was the 
default with Vista.<br />
In Windows 7, you can set up the OS to allow 
you direct access to individual Control Panel items straight from the 
Start menu. To set this up, right-click the Start button in the taskbar,
 and choose <b>Properties</b> from the resulting context menu. In the Taskbar and Start Menu Properties dialog box that pops up, click the <b>Start Menu tab</b>, then the <b>Customize</b> button. Under the subcategory named <b>Control Panel</b> on the ensuing screen, choose <b>Display as a menu</b>. It's here:<br />

sub-items that you’d get if you launched the Control Panel into its own

While there is no doubt that Android is the biggest smartphone 
operating system on the planet, however, Windows Phone has emerged as 
the quickest growing operating system in the world.<br />

In a new <a href="http://www.idc.com/getdoc.jsp?containerId=prUS24442013" target="_blank">report by IDC</a>,
 the market share of the Microsoft OS bloated by 156% over the last year
 and now, around 3.6% of all smartphones sold worldwide run on it.<br />

Windows Phone smartphone shipments reached 9.5 million during the quarter, up from 3.7 million during same duration last year.<br />

Android grew too, by 51.3 percent year over year with 211.6 million 
units shipped during third quarter of current fiscal year. Android 
accounted for 81.0% of all smartphone shipments during the quarter, 
marking the first time that Android topped 80% share in sales in its 
short history.<br />

iOS too increased its sales by 6.9 million.<br />

While Windows Phone’s 9.5 million unit figure might seem incredibly 
tiny compared to Google’s OS, it might become a threat to Google’s OS in
 certain markets and price points.<br />

Obviously, Google might’ve taken notice of this growth too and the 
result is shown in the form of increased support of for mid-range 
smartphones – with 512 MB Rams — with Android 4.4 KitKat.<br />

Meanwhile, BlackBerry further fell back from the competition by 
shrinking 41.6 percent, while also further strengthening Windows Phone’s
 grip over the third spot. Blackberry’s times might change in the 
future, however, with a new CEO in place along with a billion dollars but just don’t expect anything substantial anytime sooner though.<br />

Alcatel-Lucent is exploring the sale of a division that sells switches 
and communications gear to corporate clients, part of the French 
company's efforts to shed 1 billion euros worth of assets by 2015, 
according to people familiar with the matter.Alcatel-Lucent SA, which
 is in the midst of a turnaround and debt-reduction plan under Chief 
Executive Michel Combes, has brought in Lazard Ltd to help find a buyer 
for its enterprise business, the sources said this week.<br />
It marks 
the second time in three years that the telecom equipment maker has 
tried to sell the underperforming division. In 2011 it explored a sale 
of the entire enterprise business but found no takers. It ended up 
selling only the still-growing part of the division - call center 
software unit Genesys - to private equity firm Permira for $1.5 billion.<br />
At
 the time, potential buyers were put off by the corporate telephony part
 of the enterprise business, which was losing money and weighed down 
with too many workers in Europe.<br />
A spokesman for Alcatel-Lucent 
declined to comment on whether the enterprise business was on the block 
again. A Lazard spokesperson did not immediately respond to requests for
 comment. The sources asked not to be named because the matter is not 
public.<br />
Combes recently said the group was "actively working" on 
asset sales, and also announced a capital increase and high-yield bond 
to raise $2 billion.<br />
That prompted credit rating agencies Moody's and Standard & Poor's on Thursday to upgrade their outlooks on Alcatel-Lucent.<br />
The
 moves are intended to strengthen the money-losing French group's 
finances and keep it competitive against larger rivals including 
Ericsson, Huawei Technologies and Nokia's equipment unit NSN.<br />
Alcatel
 does not disclose the revenue from its enterprise activity. It said 
sales to corporate clients and government brought in 959 million euros 
last year, while analysts say the enterprise business is likely losing 
money.<br />
Several headwinds facing the unit make it unlikely that 
industry peers - such as Avaya, Mitel Networks Corp and Unify (formerly 
Siemens Enterprise Communications) - or private equity firms will 
aggressively step up for a deal, according to the sources.<br />
The 
main challenge for buyers is having to absorb the costs associated with 
pension obligations. During the unsuccessful sale process in 2011, 
buyers balked at the expense of restructuring the legacy voice business,
 which is based in Europe and involves unionized labor.<br />
In 
addition, competitors such as RingCentral Inc and 8x8 Inc, which provide
 more cloud-based phone services, have been taking market share and 
could make Alcatel-Lucent's patent portfolio in its enterprise unit seem
 outdated, one of the sources said.<br />
Very few parties, if any, would likely pursue the enterprise unit as a whole, the sources said.<br />
Janardan
 Menon, an analyst at Liberum Capital, wrote in a recent note that 
Alcatel-Lucent could achieve "significantly higher margins" through a 
sale of unprofitable business lines such as enterprise.<br />
"A key part of the Alcatel-Lucent investment thesis revolves around its potential sale of assets," said Menon.<br />
The
 potential divestment comes as the telecom equipment sector could be 
headed for another round of consolidation. Nokia has been weighing 
whether to seek a tie-up with Alcatel or purchase its wireless assets, 
Reuters has reported.<br />
Nokia is in the process of selling its 
handset business to Microsoft Corp for $7.2 billion, and will be left 
with a mapping software unit, a portfolio of patents and its network 
equipment business, Nokia Solutions and Networks (NSN).<br />
A 
combination with Alcatel-Lucent would increase NSN's market share in the
 global wireless infrastructure market from 18 percent to more than 30 
percent, leapfrogging Huawei and closing in on Ericsson, according to 
analyst data.</div>

Telecom major Vodafone India and ICICI Bank Monday launched mobile money
 transfer and payment service 'M-Pesa' in Assam and other North Eastern 
states.Launching 'M-Pesa' Guwahati, the company's Operations Director
 (East) Bjas Murthy said the trademark service of Vodafone would empower
 the unbanked and under-banked sections of the population gain access to
 financial services via mobile phone.<br />
'M-Pesa' effectively 
leverages the combined strengths of Vodafone's global expertise in the 
domain of mobile payments and significant distribution reach in India 
plus the security of financial transactions provided by ICICI Bank, 
Murthy said.<br />
Business Head-in Assam and North East, Pushpinder 
Singh Gujral said the service would now be available in over 350 towns, 
130 Tehsils, 40 districts through more than 1,200 specially trained 
authorised agents and across 91 Vodafone exclusive retail and mini 
stores in Assam and the Northeast.<br />
The innovative use of mobile 
technology makes it possible for customers to enjoy a fast, simple and 
secure way to transfer money and make payments, Gujral said.<br />
Highlighting
 the relevance of 'M-Pesa' for the residents of Assam and North East, 
Gujral said,: "'M-Pesa' is a safe, secure and convenient service to 
transfer money and make payments beyond the reach of traditional banking
 channels. For households where the earning members migrate to larger 
cities, 'M-Pesa' will be the best way to send money back home."<br />
Using
 their 'M-Pesa' account, customers can at their convenience deposit and 
withdraw cash from designated outlets, transfer money to any mobile 
phone in the country, remit money to any bank account in the country, 
Vodafone Business head (M-Pesa) Suresh Sethi said.<br />
The account can
 also be used for making payments to recharge mobile, clear utility 
bills, pay DTH service subscription, shop at select shops and 
participate in e-commerce/m-commerce, Sethi added.<br />
"Registering 
for 'M-Pesa' is easy and simple. Vodafone customers need to visit an 
'M-Pesa' agent outlet, fill up a form, submit identity, address proofs 
and deposit a minimum amount along with it to open their 'M-Pesa' 
account", the Vodafone official said.<br />
'M-Pesa' has been rolled out
 in Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, West Bengal, UP East, UP West, Bihar, 
Jharkhand, Rajasthan, Maharashtra and Goa, he said, adding it would be 
made available across the country in a phased manner.</div>

In a bid to promote mobile broadband penetration, Idea Cellular Tuesday 
slashed 2G data tariffs by up to 90 percent across the country and 3G 
tariffs by as much as 33 percent for six months starting November 15.The reduced tariffs will be available to existing and new prepaid and postpaid users, the company said in a statement.<br />
At
 the new rates, 3G data tariffs are now on par with 2G across all 10 
Idea 3G circles. Users can access 2G and 3G data at 2 paise per 10 KB.<br />
"Over
 33 million existing and new data users on the Idea networks can now 
enjoy reduced data tariffs on their 2G and 3G prepaid and postpaid 
handsets and dongles. The offer will be effective from November 15, 
2013, and be available for six months," it said.<br />
Vodafone India 
had slashed data tariffs by up to 80 percent across the country. Bharti 
Airtel in June had reduced rates by up to 90 percent in Punjab and 
Haryana.<br />
"Idea has reduced 2G data tariff by up to 90 percent 
across all 22 circles, enabling users to avail 2G data at 2 paise per 10
 KB. Idea's 3G users will now be able to save up to 30 percent on their 
monthly data charges as the same tariff will also be available across 
all 10 Idea 3G circles," the company said.<br />
Idea has 3G spectrum in
 Maharashtra and Goa, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh, Kerala, UP West 
and East, Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Haryana, Jammu and Kashmir and 
Himachal Pradesh.<br />
The current tariffs for 2G are 2 paise per KB while for 3G, the rates are 3 paise per 10 KB.<br />
"The
 reduction in data tariff is aimed at catalysing data adoption amongst 
the masses and empowering them with the power of mobile Internet at an 
affordable cost," Idea Cellular Deputy Managing Director Ambrish Jain 
said.<br />
The revised tariffs will not only drive more data usage from
 existing Idea users but will also attract new users to Idea's growing 
subscriber portfolio, the company said.</div>

Vodafone in association with Timbre Media, a Bangalore-based start-up, 
today announced the launch of WorldSpace Radio for mobile users in 
India. The service is available across 18 circles with Vodafone 
customers gaining access to over 100,000 songs across 10 channels.<br /><br />A
 monthly rental of Rs.30 will be charged offering 300 minutes of free 
usage. After 300 minutes, the user can get a top-up of Rs. 7 which will 
provide 70 minutes of free listening.<br /><br />The service is currently 
active in Uttar Pradesh (East & West), Rajasthan, Haryana, Punjab, 
Mumbai, Bihar, Kerala, West Bengal, Assam, North East, Karnataka, Madhya
 Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Orissa, Delhi, Chennai, and Tamil Nadu.<br /><br />Vodafone
 Customers can activate this service by calling 58000 (Toll free) or SMS
 ACT Wrdaio to 111 (toll free) or USSD on *514*580#. Upon activation, 
when you dial 58000, you are greeted with a Hindi IVR welcoming you to 
the service and listing the options for various channels. You can choose
 from a variety of songs in different genres and languages ranging from 
romance and ghazals to even dance-hits.<br /><br />If you disconnect and 
redial 58000, you are taken back to the song you were previously 
listening to if you do not press any number to go to a specific menu 
option. You can choose the channels by dialing 0 (Lists 5 channels). For
 further channel selection, you need to dial 6. This gives you a list of
 more regional channels. For any assistance during the call, you can 
dial 9. The IVR does not provide an English menu option.<br /><br />As of 
now the service is solely voice-based, but the company soon plans to
