Realizing the importance of imparting quality education and providing
 appropriate ICT-based learning aids to public sector students in 
Pakistan, Telenor Pakistan recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding
 (MoU) with Children Library Complex (CLC), Lahore.
<br />
During the pilot phase of this E-Education Project, Telenor 
Pakistan will technologically enable the computer lab at CLC and provide
 top of the line content of <a href="http://www.khanacademy.org/" target="_blank">Khan Academy</a>, while CLC will develop the course structure for imparting content in support of national curricula.
<br />
The MoU was signed by Muhammad Aslam Hayat, Chief Corporate 
Affairs Officer, Telenor Pakistan and Abdul Jabbar Shaheen, Secretary 
School Education Department, Government of Punjab during a ceremony at 
Children Library Complex.
<br />
On this occasion, Muhammad Aslam Hayat, Chief Corporate Affairs 
Officer, Telenor Pakistan said, “This is the era of Massive Open Online 
Courses (MOOC), however most public schools in Pakistan remain largely 
unconnected to Internet. We at Telenor believe that every child should 
benefit from what Open Course Ware has to offer, and have therefore 
selected Khan Academy content, which is available offline. Integration 
of ICT in teaching and learning process has transformed the learning 
experience of students in many developed countries and we are proud of 
promoting this trend in Pakistan.”
<br />
While providing access to top of the line education content, the 
initiative is expected to help improve conceptual understanding and 
science aptitudes of grade 9 and 10 public sector students and teachers.
<br />
Future scalability and course of action for the next phase will be devised based on the impact of pilot.</div>

Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL) today announced 
consolidated revenues of Rs. 100.5 billion for nine months period that 
ended on September 30, 2013.<br />
The financial results for the period ended September 2013 were 
announced today at the Company’s Board of Directors (BoD) meeting held 
in Islamabad.<br />
PTCL group posted a revenue growth of 16% with Net Profit amounting 
to Rs. 11.3 billion for the period under review, while Gross Profit 
stood at Rs.  35.98 billion.<br />
PTCL’s revenue stood at Rs 60.7 billion and showed a significant 
increase of 31%, with Net Profit standing at Rs.  9.3 billion, while 
Gross Profit was recorded at Rs.  20.8 billion.<br />

Nokia Announces Three Asha Phones, Two Lumia phones and a Tablet

Today at Nokia World in Abu Dhabi, Nokia unveiled six new devices 
alongside new accessories, Nokia experiences and third-party developer 
applications.<br />
Nokia introduced its first ever Windows tablet, the Nokia Lumia 2520,
 along with two other Lumia devices – both offering 6 inch large display
 –  the Lumia 1520 and 1320.<br />
Nokia today also unveiled three new Asha models namely the Asha 500, Asha 502 and Asha 503.<br />

Nokia has finally stepped into the tablet market. With Lumia 2520 the

TEXPO, the global technology and infrastructure provider, announced a
 multi-million dollar investment over the next five years to the 
country’s ICT sector.<br />
Additionally the organisation has awarded 34 university scholarships 
to successful IT students under its ‘Mentoring a Talent’ initiative.<br />
TEXPO said that together with its exclusive partner in Pakistan, 
Cannon Technologies, it wants to pave the way for other global ICT 
organizations to explore and invest in the region.<br />

Announcing the company’s investment plans to revitalise Pakistan’s 
ICT sector, Dr Sarfaraz Alam, CEO of TEXPO, said, ‘We are ecstatic with 
our participation as the platinum sponsor of the event and equally 
delighted with the meetings we have had. It is our desire to expand in 
Pakistan, build infrastructure and create jobs for a highly talented and
 enthusiastic market here.’<br />
Pakistan is fast becoming the destination of choice for a significant
 number of international companies looking to relocate their operations.
 The ready availability of skilled professionals, a comprehensive ICT 
infrastructure and affordable rates for connectivity offer considerable 
time and cost-savings for entrepreneurs. The global share of the 
country´s ICT industry is estimated at over US$2bn, ‘I hope with our 
current initiative and future plans, we shall have many more 
internationally recognized organisations focusing on Pakistan,’

During recently held ITCN Asia expo, the British Deputy High 
Commissioner Mr Mike Reilly awarded scholarships to 34 successful IT 
students from universities all over Pakistan, who took part in TEXPO’s 
global social initiative programme ‘Mentoring a Talent’.<br />
Now in its second year, the programme helps IT university students in
 South Asian countries to reach their full potential in academic studies
 and to thrive in the business world   Currently the initiative focuses 
on IT students in Pakistan, but TEXPO will be extending this to 
additional disciplines in education in the future and to other countries
 including Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, India and Nepal.<br />

Fingerprint scanning seems to be another bit of tech which Apple has brought to life.
 While it is nothing new, getting used in the Motorola Atrix a few years
 ago, the way Apple has implemented it is again turning out to be the 
biggest advantage for the company.<br />
As expected, competition has followed the trend and according to 
reports, Samsung’s next flagship will reportedly come with an 
eye-scanning sensor. Very cool.<br />
So far, however, only HTC has incorporated this technology in its HTC One Max, but how does that stack up compared to the industry-leading iPhone 5s’ Touch ID?<br />
Well, rather poorly. In theory, HTC’s fingerprint scanning seem quite
 good. Execution, however, is far from perfection. The scanner’s 
placement, the phone’s ergonomics and the technology’s functionality 
leave something to be desired.<br />
Firstly, unlike the iPhone 5s’ Touch ID, sensor in HTC’s One Max is 
located just below the camera, which means your finger is likely to 
smudge the lens everytime you’ll use the scanner, which will require 
cleaning every once in a while. (And at least to this author it looks 
quite bizarre.)<br />

Unlike Apple’s feature which remembers 5 fingerprints, HTC’s solution
 remembers only 3. It requires a swipe to be unlocked rather than just 
the placement of a finger. That doesn’t sound too bad, but instead of 
just swiping your finger over it, you’ll have to press the unlock button
 first, which sums up to two steps unlike Touch ID’s one.<br />
Ergonomics will also be a pain. Being at the back, you can’t simply 
use the fingerprint scanner one-handed like you can on the iPhone 5s and
 as you would’ve expected, swiping at the back without seeing it DOES 
leave room for a lot of mistakes.<br />
One thing which you can, however, do with HTC One Max is to assign a 
task to each of your three fingers. This is great but you can only use 
this function only from your lockscreen.<br />
The One Max – after all this shortcomings – can be termed a missed 
opportunity. The scanner is its biggest feature but that’s exactly where
 it fails flatly. Even when you put its finger-scanning capabilities to a
 side, there’s little-to-no reason of buying the One Max (except for the
 sensational design) as its feature-package is modest for a device as 
expensive as this.<br />
Even according to its maker, the One Max is a temporary answer to 
competition but then again, when you’re spending this kind of money on a
 phone, you intend to keep it for many summers and winters.</div>

A team of Chinese experts and specialists have successfully 
developed, and experimented an innovative way of gaining access to the 
Digital World of the Internet using the signals sent through the Light 
Bulb instead of Radio Waves as in Wi-Fi.<br />
Scientists named it Li-Fi.<br />
In case if you don’t know, Wi-Fi operates in the frequency range 
between 2.4 and 2.483 GHz. IEEE 802 (11a operates in the frequency range
 from 5.725 to 5.850 GHz. These are often referred to as the “2.4 GHz” 
and “5GHz” bands).<br />
The term Li-Fi may not be new to many ears; in fact it is around since 2011, when Harald Haas had first used it in his <a href="http://www.ted.com/talks/harald_haas_wireless_data_from_every_light_bulb.html" target="_blank">TED Global talk on Visible Light Communication</a> on this very context.<br />
The Li-Fi technology operates under the principle that light can be 
used to carry Signals as an alternative to traditional radio 
frequencies; it keeps serving as long as there is no blockage of any 
kind, between the Light source and a Computer.<br />
Chi Nan, the I.T Professor at Shanghai’s Fudan University, who also 
leads the Li-Fi research team (which includes scientists from the 
Shanghai Institute of Technical Physics of the Chinese Academy of 
Sciences) have said that, “One-watt LED Light Bulb may establish an 
Internet connection for four Electronic Gadgets at once.”, she added 
that, “A light bulb with embedded microchips can produce data rate as 
fast as 150Mbps.”<br />

The current tools for Wireless Signal Transmission is expensive and less efficient, said Chi.<br />
“Millions of base stations have been established for strengthening 
the signals of cell phones, but most of the energy is consumed for their
 cooling systems. The energy utilization rate is only five percent” she 
explained.<br />
In today’s world where two thirds of the total population does not 
have internet access, and places like Pakistan, China and India, where 
over billion people combined don’t have this facility; gaining access to
 the Internet by just turning on the Light bulb will be nothing less 
than a dream come true.<br />
According to Chi,<br />
“Wherever there is a LED light bulb, there is an Internet signal. Turn off the light and there is no signal”<br />
More importantly, according to the experts, the development of a 
series of key related pieces of technology, including light 
communication controls as well as microchip design and manufacturing, is
 still in an experimental period and there is still a long way to go to 
make Li-Fi a commercial success.<br />
Despite the fact that the Technology is still in the experimental 
period, Netizens should be excited to view 10 sample Li-Fi kits that 
will be on display at the China International Industry Fair that will 
kick off on November 5 in Shanghai.</div>
