Warid Telecom has partnered with the National Disaster Management 
Authority (NDMA) to assist the organisation in its relief efforts, for 
the Balochistan earthquake victims.<br />
Hundreds of lives were lost and thousands were left homeless after the 7.7-magnitude earthquake levelled houses in Balochistan.<br />
To assist the NDMA in their relief efforts, Warid will create and 
maintain an SMS short code encouraging Warid subscribers to donate 
generously to the NDMA. All Warid subscribers will be able to donate Rs.
 10+t by sending a blank SMS to 6362.<br />
The donated amount will be deposited in the National Disaster 
Management Fund after every 20 days in order to enable the NDMA to carry
 out their relief efforts in a timely manner.<br />
Commenting on the campaign Warid’s Chief Commercial Officer, Mr. 
Younas Sheikh said, “It is essential that we make a collective effort to
 assist our fellow countrymen in this hour of need. That is exactly what
 we at Warid are trying to do through this campaign. We will send 
constant reminders to our subscribers as well as social media users in 
Pakistan throughout this campaign, to step forward and donate generously
 for the earthquake victims.”<br />
In addition to the SMS short code, Warid will also run an awareness 
drive through a social media campaign using Twitter and Facebook where 
they will share lists of donation centres and items that are required 
for donation.<br />
Social media users in Pakistan are encouraged to use the hashtag 
#WaridEQHelp to assist in creating awareness regarding this natural 
disaster.</div>

Another day, another service banned in the country. This time its Viber.<br />
We are widely getting reports that Viber calls are not getting 
through, however, Viber text messages are working fine, we have checked.<br />
As per reports that we are getting, Viber calls are not connecting on
 various ISPs in almost all major cities, meaning that, this is not ISP 
specific ban, rather its a country wide ban.<br />
It is assumed that service has been blocked due to a recent proposal by Sindh government to ban Skype, Viber, WhatsApp and other IM services due to security situation in Karachi. <br />
However, we suspect that this Viber ban has to do something with the 
VoIP calling facility, which was hurting the revenues of telecom 
operators. Just to mention, VoIP calling services are not legal in 
Pakistan, unless you are call centre or if you have special 
authorization from PTA.<br />
It maybe recalled that Skype (PC to Phone) calling is already blocked on various ISPs in Pakistan.<br />
We have confirmation from PTA for not issuing any directive regarding the blockade of Viber.<br />
Through a tweet, Viber has hinted that the company suspects inaccessibility of its services in Pakistan<br />

<b>Update</b><br />
It appears that all the fuss was due to a technical glitch on gateway
 level. Experts are predicting that this had to do something with the 
testing/configuration of new filteration system installed by PTCL. However, we still don’t have final words on this.<br />
In a related news, Facebook remained inaccessible for masses during 
past two days (while it still is inaccessable for many) due to similar 
reasons.<br />
It is likely that both the services will keep snipping in and out over the next few days.<br />

A petition has been filed against Google for doing business in 
Pakistan without registering the firm and having an office in the 
country, reported <a href="http://e.dunya.com.pk/detail.php?date=2013-10-10&edition=KCH&id=650286_30695691" target="_blank">Dunya News</a>.<br />
The case was filed by Mr. Kamil Muzafar with Intellectual Property 
Organisation of Pakistan, challenging Google’s ability of doing business
 in the country without any physical office or registering the company 
in Pakistan.<br />
IPO, the body that will decide the fate of the case, is likely to 
call Ministry of Information Technology and Telecom, Pakistan 
Telecommunication Authority and Google’s representative in Pakistan 
after Eid holidays.<br />
Petitioner contended that Google’s operations are illegal because 
company isn’t registered in Pakistan at all. Petition further said that Google is earning millions of dollars by just registered a domain name with PKNIC, while its earnings are not taxed.<br />
Petition alleged Google of violating intellectual copyrights and evading taxes for over ten years.<br />
It merits mentioning here that FBR had once hinted to tax Google,
 however, things didn’t go as FBR had urged because of various reasons 
including Google not being a registered firm in the country.<br />
It maybe recalled that Google was once asked to appear in Lahore High
 Court during a hearing for the petition filed against the ban of 
YouTube in Pakistan, however, company neither appeared in the court nor 
submitted any reply or its inability to join the proceedings.</div>

doesn’t matter because it is due to the hardware weakness and the fact
