Samsung has made clear that it has big hopes with its upcoming Tizen 
OS. In an interview with CNET, Samsung Mobile division head J. K. Shin 
said that smartphones aren’t its target with Tizen. After splashing in 
that industry, they would like to see it in further markets including 
cars as well, describing the idea as “cross category”.<br />
“There are many convergences not only among IT gadgets, including 
smartphones, tablets, PCs, and cameras”, Shin said, “but also among 
different industries like cars, bio, or banks. Cross-convergence is the 
one [area] Samsung can do best since we do have various parts and 
finished products.”<br />
Samsung actually isn’t the only company trying out its luck in cars 
as Apple has already made some great strides in that business lately.<br />
With Tizen, Samsung will try to shrug off its reliance on Android 
operating system where it is the undisputed leader, but nonetheless 
dependent upon Google when it comes to development, among other things 
including leadership rights.<br />
Tizen has got some nice reception already but might see itself at the back of the crowd in the beginning.<br />
Shin strongly believes that Tizen has the potential to become the 
third operating system for the company alongside Android and Windows 
Phone. He also said that a lot of interesting development is currently 
going on in the tablet division right now.<br />

“There will be good news on the tablet soon,” he said. “Please wait and see.”</blockquote>
Samsung has already killed its Bada operating system (which wasn’t 
totally unsuccessful after all and got better sales than Windows Phone 
for quite a time) to dedicate more effort into Tizen, so it’s only 
natural that the company is very excited with it.<br />

Some months back, amidst the declining pocketable smartphone market, 
Acer stood out of the pack and announced that it will launch a “small” 
Android phone with respectable specs in the near future. That moment has
 arrived today and the Liquid Z3 is official.<br />
The phone boasts a 3.5 inch display, a size similar to the iPhone 4S 
and the previous Apple smartphones. Resolution is unknown though. The 
Liquid Z3 is 10.4mm thick and weighs 120 grams. It runs on Android 4.2 
Jelly Bean, two steps behind the latest version 4.3.<br />
Under the hood, you get a 1Ghz dual-core processor of unknown breed. 
Amount of RAM is behind the covers too. 4 GB of storage is available 
onboard which also happens to be expandable. A dual-sim version of the 
Liquid Z3 will be available later.<br />
The back boasts a 3 megapixel camera. For connectivity, the phone 
uses Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and GPS. The phone also features several special 
modes in its UI, including the basic mode with only calls and text 
messaging, and Classic mode where the UI get simplified for first-time 
smartphone owners.<br />

about $130. At that price tag, the specs of this phone are not bad but 
if you are willing to get a Chinese phone, either from a reputable or an
 unknown manufacturer, you can get much better than this. Still, this 
effort doesn’t seem too bad. Just wait for the complete specifications 
to be revealed.</div>

Mobile phone services will not be suspended on Eid-ul-Fitr, reported <a href="http://tribune.com.pk/story/586773/cellular-services-not-to-be-suspended-on-eid/" target="_blank">Express Tribune</a>, while quoting Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan.<br />
Earlier there were doubts that mobile phone might get suspended on 
the occasion of Eid due to security threats. This was looking more 
possible with recent mobile phone service blockade on Youm-e-Ali on 21st Ramadan.<br />
Recent reports, however, clarify that mobile phone services are to largely remain open on Eid.<br />
At the same time the Minister Interior has hinted that the provincial
 governments could suspend cellular services if they felt the security 
situation demanded it.<br />
It merits mentioning here that Eid days are one of those busiest days
 for telecom operators when their traffic spikes go up to 10-15 folds of
 usual day traffic.<br />
Telecom operators had to bear hefty losses last year when mobile and 
wireless service were suspended on Eid Day on directions of Mr. Rehman 
Malik, then Interior Minister.<br />
It maybe recalled that cellular operators oppose such forced mobile 
suspensions and have urged the government to take alternate measures to 
tackle security situation.<br />

Pakistan
 has decide to invite the global manufacturers to get their assembly 
plants installed in Pakistan, reported APP, a state owned news agency.<br />
Without unveiling any manufacturer, the report said that Pakistan is 
in efforts to get a laptop assembly plant running in the country to meet
 local demands primarily and then to export laptops to foreign nations 
in future.<br />
The decision was taken during a meeting for the implementation of 
Prime Minister Youth Laptop Scheme under the chairmanship of Higher 
Education Commission (HEC) Chairperson, Dr Javaid R. Leghari.<br />
It merits mentioning here that earlier it was announced by the 
government that some 300,000 laptops will be distributed to bright 
students acquiring higher education at the federal universities.<br />
It was decided that instead of buying such huge quantity of laptops 
from a single manufacturer, laptop makers will be asked to setup their 
assembly plant – if not manufacturing facility – in Pakistan.<br />
For the purpose, in the meeting it was decided, to hold an 
international conference of the potential bidders for establishing 
laptop assembling and manufacturing plant.<br />
The assembling plant would also help facilitate the distribution of 
laptop to selected students, as per Prime Minister’s Youth Laptop 
Scheme.<br />
The meeting discussed the modalities of implementing the laptop 
scheme recently announced by the government in the annual budget to 
acknowledge the outstanding performance of the bright young students.<br />
Chairman HEC, Dr Javaid Leghari said HEC was tasked to design the 
implementation strategy and form eligibility criteria in a transparent 
manner to promote outreach of youth to information and communication 
technology.<br />
It maybe recalled that over 100,000 laptops were distributed to 
college and university students last year in Punjab under Chief 
Minister’s Youth Laptop scheme.<br />

WhatsApp today announced that it is adding voice messaging feature for its 300 million active users.<br />
With this new feature, WhatsApp users will be able to send voice to 
their contacts from various platforms. WhatsApp said that its voice 
message feature is instantly available on all platforms, including iOS, 
Android, Blackberry, Windows Phone and Nokia.<br />
WhatsApp said that sending a voice message is easy and all voice 
messages are downloaded automatically on receiver’s smartphone. Users 
can then play this message by just clicking the play button.<br />
Just to mention, WhatsApp now has <a href="http://allthingsd.com/20130806/the-quiet-mobile-giant-with-300m-active-users-whatsapp-adds-voice/" target="_blank">more than 300 million active users</a>
 who send 11 billion messages and receive 20 billion messages per day 
(counted separately because some messages are sent to more than one 
recipient). Moreover, WhatsApp users share 325 million photos per day.<br />
It maybe recalled that many Chat apps already offer Voice messaging 
feature. WhatsApp, however, believes that it has tried to making voice 
messaging simpler and easier with a single tap instead of multiple taps 
in other chat apps.<br />
Moreover, WhatsApp also contends to have support for more platforms 
than all other chatting apps, and that’s where WhatsApp wins despite 
simpler and boring GUI.</div>
